The CLose Encounters Devil's Tower question was part of Carpenter's $1 Million stack. He was asked what movie takes place in part at Devil's Tower. The Einstein being a plumber quote was asked(what scientist wanted to be a plumber as he was quoted, and then a theory of Relativity reference) as a multiple choice question on the 1980 premiere of Las Vegas Gambit.

Here's the quote, according to Wikiquote:
If I would be a young man again and had to decide how to make my living, I would not try to become a scientist or scholar or teacher. I would rather choose to be a plumber or a peddler in the hope to find that modest degree of independence still available under present circumstances.

* Letter to the editor of The Reporter about the situation of scientists in America (13 October 1954).
Okay, how many people (besides Zach) were aware of this quote before this episode? :?

Ashley auditioned the same day I did and was (as far as I know) the only other person videotaped in the first session. I wondered if she made it on, now I'm glad to see she did!

Meredith perceived that Ashley wasn't the outgoing sort and kept trying to get her to be more enthusiastic. How did Ashley make it to the second interview?

OK, this is the second contestant that had to use lifelines very early. This doesn't bode well, either.

This was the toughest question in the unrandomized stack. Having studied the Gideons movement in college I was able to answer this one confidently.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

Not the exact quote but I did know the answer.

What made her stand out? On the show she seemed rather timid and Meredith kept trying to get her to be more energetic and enthusiastic.

While she wasn't "bubbly" (neither am I, for that matter), she was very friendly and her accent was quite charming. I only spoke to her a few minutes and wasn't privy to her interview, but my gut told me she'd make it on. But hell, I'm still trying to figure out how I made it on.

I know that when he was at Princeton he was fascinated by the sewer system and explored them at times. Not sure if that came from his plumber fantasy.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.
