And here's one from his college paper. This has some rather interesting information about The Call. Meredith's banter with Scott made it sound like the only reason Scott considered saying no to The Call was that he'd miss a day of school. But it was much more than that!

A couple weeks after he auditioned, Harrigan received the call that would change his life.

“They called me at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and told me to come in at 7 a.m. on Thursday, the next day,” he said.

Despite the short notice, Harrigan’s father immediately drove up to Binghamton to get him ready for the next day.

“We managed to get back to Long Island in time, but I don’t think I got any sleep that night,” Harrigan said. “It was crazy.”

So, he was a last minute contestant! My guess is that they had his Oyster Bay address on file and chose him because he was a local contestant--and TPTB didn't realize he was at school so far away. If they had, I doubt he'd have been cast for this episode at all!

As for his dad driving all the way up to Binghamton and bringing him back to NYC, that's crazy! But it was probably too late for Scott to get on a regularly-scheduled plane or bus, so that eight or nine-hour round trip was the only choice that would work.

And then Scott's mom gets all the airtime as his companion--dad must have passed out from exhaustion.

Route 17 is shorter (don't forget to stop at the "Famous" Roscoe Diner, some caffeine was probably needed for this trip), but Google Maps still says that's 3 hours 47 minutes each way (not counting rest stops), when going all the way to and from Oyster Bay, as the article said.

When I filled out my application, they told me to put down my permanent address when I asked whether I should put down my school or permanent home address so he probably did the same.

But, okay, let's assume Scott's dad exceeded the speed limit a bit (and risked countering a possible further delay from a traffic cop with the prepared excuse "My son's supposed to be on Millionaire in a couple hours!"*), so the round trip was only seven hours.

My basic observation is still valid, right?
