Lyrically Speaking - 1/24/08
OK, after a week full of crappy games for most, let's hope this game turns things around. It's Theme Thursday, so each of the following songs fits into some underlying theme.
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 3 points for identifying the theme....
1. And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call
2. Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
3. I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see
4. What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways
5. You
With your masquerading
And you
Always contemplating
What to do
In case heaven has found you
Can't you see
That it's all around you
6. Well then can I walk beside you
I have come to lose the smog
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning
7. I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
8. Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
9. Sometimes late
When things are real
And the people share the gift of gab
Between themselves
10. Hide and seek
I play along while rushing cross the forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon
11. I got a pocket full of quarters
and I'm headed to the arcade
I don't have a lot of money
but I'm bringing everything I made
12. I'm gonna buy her pretty presents
Just like the ones in a catalog
Gonna show (gonna show) how much I love
Let 'er know (let 'er know) one way or the other

WHITE RABBIT - JEFFERSON AIRPLANE
What is with the Grace Slick fascination? At least if you stick with Airplane, I have a better shot of knowing them.
2. Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
TOM SAWYER - RUSH
3. I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see
SUPERMAN - FIVE FOR FIGHTING
I've been meaning to ask a general Five for Fighting question. Since I don't know how many people read the answers, I'll try to remember to ask after this game is closed.
Unless somebody reads this who can tell me if the lead singer for Finger Eleven is the same guy from Five For Fighting.

The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD - SAM THE SHAM & THE PHAROAHS
An on the road to Las Vegas in the middle of the night fave from years past.
5. You
With your masquerading
And you

In case heaven has found you
Can't you see

PAC-MAN FEVER - THE WOKKA WOKKAS
12. I'm gonna buy her pretty presents
Just like the ones in a catalog
Gonna show (gonna show) how much I love
Let 'er know (let 'er know) one way or the other
ROMEO & JULIET - SHAKESPEARE'S SISTER
I was going to go with literature, but Woodstock and Pac-Man makes me change it to FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. I like that the themes are getting a little more specific. Unless, of course, I'm wrong. Ha!

Spoiler
1. White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
2. Nope
3. I can sing along on the radio -- I wish I could cry, it's not easy being me, even heroes have the right to bleed -- but I cannot remember either the name of the song or who sings it.
4. Little Red Riding Hood - Sam the Sham & the Pharohs
5. Pied Piper - Crispian St. Peters (just gave away my 45 of this a couple weeks ago)
6. Nope
7. Roxanne - The Police. Voted by The Hockey News as one of the great hockey songs because of the number of times Sting sings "Put on the red light."

8. House at Pooh Corner? Kenny Loggins if it is
9. Tin Man - America
10. Nope
11. Nope
12. (Just Like) Romeo & Juliet - The Reflections

Little Red Riding Hood - Freakwater. At least that's who does the version I have, which is on "The Bottle Let Me Down - Songs For Bumpy Wagon Rides", which is my 2nd favorite children's album so far (behind TMBG's "No!"). If you agree with me that Nashville has put out very little that could qualify as country music in the past 20 years (I can see Hank Williams, the real one, slapping Garth Brooks across the face), this is a great kids' introduction to country music.

Fictional Characters - I was gonna say children's fictional characters, but I don't think Cyrano qualifies as children's fiction. Of course now I'm worrying that there's a different fictional Roxanne I'm not thinking of.

A group called Matthew's Southern Comfort did a version of this song as well. Softer and slower. Hit #23 on the charts in 1971. Best of the bunch IMHO.

I guess that's why there's only one guy in the videos, huh? I knew his name, so I guess I could have found out if I could ever be arsed to look up something myself. But why, when I have lovely people such as yourself to do it for me? Ha!
The Finger Eleven dude looks just like him, though.

Woodstock - bad version by Joni Mitchell, worse version by CSN
RaySpoiler
A group called Matthew's Southern Comfort did a version of this song as well. Softer and slower. Hit #23 on the charts in 1971. Best of the bunch IMHO.[/spoiler]Spoiler
NONONONONO! JONI ROCKS! And her version of "Woodstock" is perfection.
Spoiler
forgot about Matthews Southern Comfort. I had that 45, too.

Re: Lyrically Speaking - 1/24/08
OK, after a week full of crappy games for most, let's hope this game turns things around. It's Theme Thursday, so each of the following songs fits into some underlying theme.
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 3 points for identifying the theme....
Hope I'm not to late to get this one in, I was under the weather last night.

ANSWERS/POINTS
1. And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane (For KT's benefit, I went back and counted. This is only the fourth time Jefferson Airplane/Starship/Just Plain Starship has appeared in one of my LS games this year, though this was the second time in a row, and.... uh..... uh oh!)
2. Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
Tom Sawyer - Rush (Guess what is playing on VH1 Classic as I type up these answers!)
3. I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see
Superman - Five For Fighting
4. What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways
Little Red Riding Hood - Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs
5. You
With your masquerading
And you
Always contemplating
What to do
In case heaven has found you
Can't you see
That it's all around you
The Pied Piper - Crispian St. Peters
6. Well then can I walk beside you
I have come to lose the smog
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning
Woodstock - Crosby Stills Nash & Young or Joni Mitchell (I put Joni Mitchell last despite the fact that it's her song because I never hear her version on the radio. I like the CSNY version though, so there...)
7. I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
Roxanne - The Police
8. Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
House at Pooh Corner - Loggins & Messina (Just plain Kenny Loggins was fine for me)
9. Sometimes late
When things are real
And the people share the gift of gab
Between themselves
Tinman - America
10. Hide and seek
I play along while rushing cross the forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon
Tarzan Boy - Baltimora
11. I got a pocket full of quarters
and I'm headed to the arcade
I don't have a lot of money
but I'm bringing everything I made
Pac Man Fever - Buckner & Garcia
12. I'm gonna buy her pretty presents
Just like the ones in a catalog
Gonna show (gonna show) how much I love
Let 'er know (let 'er know) one way or the other
(Just Like) Romeo & Juliet - The Reflections
Theme? - I think there was an urge to get more specific than one needed here. The theme was just plain Fictional Characters. Literary or children's characters, while they describe most of the songs, doesn't quite fit the bill, so there weren't many three point bonuses to award today....
