They said Alandis turned down a scholarship to law school, in order to continue pursuing a career in music (thus preserving his full WE/WE credentials).

Hmmm. I'm thinking that law school scholarships don't come out of the blue, without a considerable effort to get one, before he changed his plans.

Meryl Streep is a perennial Oscar nominee. Tom Hanks is not.

Playing a mentally challenged (in some way) character is a great way to get an Oscar nomination.

In the original animated version, it wasn't a "ritual". It was a means of communicating information over long distances.

I think Tom Hanks may be the closest thing to a perennial Oscar Nominee on the male side, at least in the last 2 decades. He has been nominated 5 times since '89 and is only the second person to win back-to-back Oscars.
