Wedding blog - Big Day minus 213 and counting

It has begun. Or maybe it began some 23 years ago at my daughter's birth. Depends on your perspective. Either way, planning for BD's (Beautiful Daughter's) wedding is now in full swing. August 10th, 2008. Mark your calendars.

The engagement (another possible starting point) became official in May 2007, when FSIL (Future Son-In-Law) formally proposed and presented BD with a ring the week after her college graduation. Searching for a dress started almost immediately (gotta love the Internet!). The rest was postponed until FSIL's future became more definite. He is a soldier, fourth-generation Army, with his current enlistment lasting for another four years. He has been to Iraq once already, which is how he and BD met (more on that in a later entry). The Army being what it is, his future deployments, if any, were uncertain. If it happened this year, then there was no point in having the wedding soon. BD and FSIL were content to let things slide until afterwards.

Recently, he transferred to Fort Irwin in California, the primary training ground for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Inquiries with TPTB (The Powers That Be) there indicated that any deployment is at least a year off. If he becomes a trainer, he may stay at Ft. Irwin for the rest of his enlistment. Armed with that information, BD and FSIL came to the conclusion that the wedding should happen this year rather than wait until after any deployment.

This news has already sent GW (Gorgeous Wife) into a tizzy. She figured she'd have another year or more for planning. Well, God (or insert your preferred Deity) laughed - we told Him our plans - and so the game is afoot.

Opted to take this here. May still decide to put it on a more public blogsite.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I am thankful for people like FSIL and BD.
