Lyrically Speaking 12-27-07 Scoring & Such

#1 Post by traininvain » Thu Dec 27, 2007 9:31 am

Sorry I'm running late this morning, I was paring this list down from about 17 songs...so without further ado, it's 1971

LS #18……………………………….1971

1. And I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know
Hey, I oughta leave the young thing alone

2. Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died
And I can't hide and I just can't fake it

3. But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

4. All your love, all your love
All your love, all your love
All your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream
Seven horses seem
To be on the march

5. How much does it cost, I'll buy it
The time is all we've lost, I'll try it
He can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine

6. Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more

7. They took the whole Cherokee Nation
And put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife

8. I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray

9.
Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife.

10. Well I never been to heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

*******************************

Oh, and on a side note, Happy Anniversary to my wonderful parents today, 55 years and still going strong.

Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers (If you listen to that long enough, it sounds like he's repeating the word "wino"...)

2. Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died
And I can't hide and I just can't fake it

It's Too Late - Carole King

3. But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

4. All your love, all your love
All your love, all your love
All your love is gone
So sing a lonely song

We Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

9. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife.

This sounds familiar, but I'll never get it because each time I hit that white queen line, I keep thinking of White Rabbit....

10. Well I never been to heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

LS #18……………………………….1971

1. And I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know
Hey, I oughta leave the young thing alone
#3 Ain’t No Sunshine – Bill Withers

I thought about only using the I knows in this one, but I figured I throw in a bone with the last line.

2. Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died
And I can't hide and I just can't fake it
#1 It’s To Late – Carol King

For a time this was one of the biggest selling albums of all-time, and a fantastic one.

3. But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there
#11 Wild World – Cat Stevens

What’s his name now?

4. All your love, all your love
All your love, all your love
All your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream
Seven horses seem
To be on the march
#11 Love Her Madly – The Doors

One of my all-time favorite groups, written by their guitarist, Robbie Krieger, as were many of their hits.

5. How much does it cost, I'll buy it
The time is all we've lost, I'll try it
He can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine
#4 Sunshine – Jonathan Edwards

Just make you want to go out and by a Jeep, doesn’t it?

6. Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more
#4 I Said, I Am – Neil Diamond

I love this song, he talks to a chair in it too. My friend Corey stood atop one of the Twin Towers and sang this aloud during a class trip. Funny stuff both.

7. They took the whole Cherokee Nation
And put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
#1 Indian Reservation – The Raiders

This seemed like a really deep song back then to a 10 year old, last gasp for Mark Lindsey and the boys.

8. I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
#15 Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who

Gonna throw a Who song in there somewhere, still going strong on the radio. From the Who’s Next album, which makes it into my top 10 easily.

9. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife.
#40 All Good People/Your Move – Yes

What the Hell are they talking about? Sounds good though.

10. Well I never been to heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter
#5 Never Been To Spain – Three Dog Night

I’ve never been to Spain either, or Oklahoma, or Arizona, ah what does it matter. Another Hoyt Axton song, that guy really was a renaissance man.
