Plus, let's not forget that he got the next question wrong--without using a lifeline.Jeemie wrote:You're not serious, are you?mntetn wrote:In any event, whether it's Thursday or Sunday, it's not 40 days "after" Easter. I think this makes it a flawed question. Russell should be given a restart at $4k with his ATA restored.
The number of days is actually quite un-related to getting the question right.
Understanding what event Ascension Day commemorates is far more important.
And he got the question RIGHT, for crying out loud.

I'm just sayin'.Jeemie wrote:You're not serious, are you?
He gave 'em the answer they wanted (after burning a lifeline that might, or might not, have been useful on the next Q). But the right answer (Holy Saturday) was not among the choices.Jeemie wrote:And he got the question RIGHT, for crying out loud.

Holy Saturday is not considered a holiday in many Christian sects other than Catholicism.mntetn wrote:I'm just sayin'.Jeemie wrote:You're not serious, are you?

Ascension Day IS celebrated/marked across many Christian sects.
On top of that, he said he was leaning towards Easter anyway, so he was not confused by the lack of a choice for Holy Saturday.
You are nitpicking.

Often the 1K Q can be at least a bit tricky. This one not so much.BBTranscriptTeam wrote: $1,000 * The Big 5
Prized by game hunters, "The Big 5" refers to five animals -- rhinos leopards, lions, elephants and buffalo -- that live on what continent?
A: South America B: Africa
C: Australia D: Europe
Answer
B: Africa ( 10 )
To be well rounded in the "African game list" category one should also know the "Little 5" and the "Ugly 5" (as if they are ever likely to ask a question about those two lists!). So far I have managed to have a close encounter in "the wild" with all of the Big 5 and the Ugly 5 but only 4 of the Little 5.

What lifeline would have helped? How do you get this across to a PAF? The questions was not how do you pronounce the crooks name, but "Dec. 10, 2008 article about the alleged criminal acts of the governor of Illinois, USA Today printed what phonetic pronunciation of his name?" So your PAF, ATE would have had to of read the article on that date. This seems more like a $250,000 question than $8,000

That is what the question was asking. The question writers need to pin the answer, so they gave an authoritative source to validate the answer. Anyone can pronounce it anyway they want, but they were asking for the correct pronunciation of his last name. They would not ask the question in this manner and expect an improper pronunciation as the correct answer, unless it was very famous that USA Today had made an error in their article. The show would not expect someone to remember that minute of a detail for any amount of money unless it was true in all cases. The questions was not how do you pronounce the crooks name
