Rockin' Around The Quizmas Tree..the FNGD q's made easy

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Sat Dec 22, 2007 12:03 am

For those of you who missed FNGD...by design or otherwise..and would like to take a shot at the questions asked without having to navigate the FNGD thread, I've edited it into this one handy quiz. Since I couldn't do the silly FreeAgentElf parodies this year (the files are on the computer that my son-in-law has yet to fix and I can't find the notebook where I wrote them originally), I thought maybe I'd post this game instead as my seasonal tip of the cap to y'all.

CATEGORY ONE: CHRISTMAS MOVIES:

You watch 'em every year. Let's see how well you remember the details.

1-In "It's a Wonderful Life", George Bailey faces imprisonment as a result of Uncle Billy
misplacing a large sum of money. Just how much did Uncle Billy lose?

2-Near the end of "White Christmas", what gift does Betty Haynes (Rosemary Clooney) give
Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby)?

3-In "National Lampoon's European Vacation", what is Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) planning to
get the family with his anticipated Christmas bonus?

CATEGORY TWO: HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD

I love going to Walt Disney World during the holiday season. There are so many "extras".
One of these is the "Holiday Storytellers" at World Showcase in EPCOT. Each of the
countries represented in World Showcase has an actor putting on a little presentation
in which some of that country's Holiday customs and traditions are explained. I'm going to give you a description of the storyteller/custom, you tell me the country.

1-A gnome who lives in the barn and protects the family farm. On Christmas Eve the family leaves a bowl of Christmas porridge
in the barn for him. (Gnomes LOVE porridge.) The farm animals get special Christmas feed, and sheaves of grain
are mounted on a pole to feed the hungry birds.

2-A friendly witch is the rather unlikely storyteller in this country. She was an old woman sweeping her front steps
when the Magi came by and asked for directions to Bethlehem - though they were following the star.
The asked her to join them, but she "minds her own business" and refused to follow. She soon regretted that decision,
but by then the star was gone, and since then she roams the world looking for the Christ Child, and leaving gifts for
the children on January 5 (eve of the Epiphany), just in case she's found the child.

3- In this country, the "Daruma seller" describes how they celebrate the New Year rather than Christmas.
The Daruma sellers sell these Daruma dolls, that are pretty roly-poly, and even when dropped on their heads
still end up right-side-up. The Daruma dolls have eyes without pupils, and by tradition at New Years you make
a wish and paint a pupil in the Daruma's left eye. Then when your wish comes true, you paint in the other pupil.
If it doesn't...you can try again the next year.

THE COUNTRIES AT EPCOT ARE MEXICO, NORWAY, CHINA, GERMANY, ITALY, UNITED STATES, JAPAN, MOROCCO, FRANCE, UNITED KINGDOM, CANADA

CATEGORY THREE: CAROLING CAROLING

OK, down a bit of that spiked eggnog to fortify yourself and join in the holiday singalong.
Hope you know the words, especially since you don't hear these introductory verses all that often.
I'll give you the rare intro verse, you tell me the name of the song.

1-Christmas future is far away
Christmas past is past
Christmas present is here today
Bringing joy that may last

2-The sun is shining, the grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway
There's never been such a day
In Beverly Hills, LA

3-Christmas makes you feel emotional
It may bring parties or thoughts devotional
Whatever happens or what may be,
Here is what Christmas time means to me.

4-I'm dreamin' tonight of a place I love
Even more then I usually do
And although I know it's a long road back
I promise you

CATEGORY 4: IT'S A SEASON OF MANY CELEBRATIONS!

As we all know, there all all kinds of holidays and celebrations at this time of year. Here are some
non-Christmas related questions.

1-Hanukkah is celebrated for how many days?

2-Kwaanza is celebrated for how many days?

CATEGORY 5: IS THAT SNOW PART OF THE SHOW, OR DO YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE ANTENNA?

Answer these questions about some classic Holiday TV specials.

1-In "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Lucy tells Snoopy he'll have to portray
ALL of the animals for the Christmas play. What are the three animals she asks him to imitate?

2-If we're to believe the story line in "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", the 1970 animated-with-puppets
special starring Mickey Rooney as the voice of Mr. Claus, what is the first name of the schoolteacher who becomes
Mrs. Santa?

3-What's the name of the Grinch's dog?

4-In the 1969 cartoon "Frosty the Snowman", What are Frosty's first words upon coming to life?

BONUS ROUND: All Scrooges great and small.

This concerns various incarnations of Ebenezer Scrooge on film, both literal adaptations and
variations on the theme.
First up, I'll give you the name of the actor who played Bob Cratchit, you give me the name of
the actor who played Scrooge.

1-Mervyn Johns

2-David Warner

3-Gene Lockhart

4-Kermit the Frog

5-Mickey Mouse

Finally, these two involve updates/variations on the "Scrooge" theme. I'll give you the name
of the Scrooge-like character, you give me the name of the actor who played him.

6-Benedict Slade

7-Frank Cross
