It's pretty quiet around the office - this is spring break week for the local public schools and some of the parents with children are taking the week off. Some of our newer, younger staff have also taken off to join friends for spring break elsewhere.
On the homefront elwing is working through her checklist of things to do before she leaves for Ketchikan; she is very methodical, whereas I am not.

So when does elwing plan to leave for Ketchikan? The job will last until some time in September, I presume?

The crops are in, or nearly so, and delicious; cabbages and other cold-loving vegetables are five times supermarket size because of the extended sunlight.
It gets dark at a reasonable hour, somewhere between 9 and 10.
It's cold at night, but you're either tucked up somewhere or partying anyway.
Virtually all the schoolkids are gone.
Because of early fall weather patterns, there's a very good chance of seeing Denali.
And the #1, absolutely bestest and greatest reason why Alaska is such a great place to visit in September: NO MOSQUITOES!!! The cold nights have killed them off. It's lovely.

We toured part of Alaska lin June ast year - took a cruise ship to Juneau then inland, working our way back to Anchorage. It was wonderful.
