A Day At The Dentist
I hate going to the dentist. This hatred / fear is probably rooted in my childhood when I refused to take any sort of anesthetic when I was having my cavities filled (yes, that is true). So, today was Cleaning Day. Allow my to digress by telling the story of our dog. We have a very gentle cocker spaniel who is, even at the ripe old age of 11, still very active and agile (although he likes to sleep most of the day and slips and trips going up the stairs which provides me with an endless source of amusement). Anyway, our pup, while he does a great job letting us know whenever a pin drops in the house, is scared of his shadow. Whenever he hears thunder or a gunshot in the distance (we have neighbors that do target practice) he commences to tremble that is so funny to watch that we actually encourage it as another source of amusement (aren't we cruel?!) This trembling also commences whenever he goes for a car ride because he knows he's either going to get a haircut or to the vet (even though I often just take him for a ride just to let him know that he doesn't always have to go to a bad place when he's in the car) and he likes neither. Anyway, the point of all of this is that I now joke to Lady-G that this is what I feel like whenever I have to go to the dentist. And, the cleaning is not that painful. But, deep in the recesses of my mind, I expect it to be. The anticipation of going is far worse than the actual experience.

That does sound cruel.........and I must say, out of character, for how I've always read you.Sir_Galahad wrote:Anyway, our pup, while he does a great job letting us know whenever a pin drops in the house, is scared of his shadow. Well, let me further qualify that. When he starts to tremble, we try to calm him by petting him and gently telling him "it's OK" which only causes him to tremble harder. Why? I don't know. But it's very funny to watch. This is what I consider cruel. We don't actually go around banging pots or things like that to make noise to further distress him. Does that ease your mind a bit as to my character?DevilKitty100 wrote:That does sound cruel.........and I must say, out of character, for how I've always read you.Sir_Galahad wrote:Anyway, our pup, while he does a great job letting us know whenever a pin drops in the house, is scared of his shadow. I don't know. You may have to go on puppy probation for a while. And if SC gets wind of this, she may schedule some home rehab visits.Sir_Galahad wrote:Well, let me further qualify that. I think even SC would be hard-pressed not to have an ear-to-ear grin (at least) if she came by during a t-storm.DevilKitty100 wrote:
