If you have a couple extra billion available

#1 Post by Sir_Galahad » Mon Mar 16, 2009 6:06 pm

The Bellagio Casino & Hotel in Vegas is for sale.

It seems that the parent company, MGM Mirage, has fallen on hard times.

Bailout, anyone?

They just were never the same after they had a couple hundred million stolen from their underground vault, huh?

I'm going to Vegas the end of May to play in the World Series Of Poker. Flight are reasonable and the rooms are dirt cheap. Now's as good a time to go as any.

I'm going to Vegas on Friday and not going anywhere near the Bellagio now. If they're having hard times, no one is going to be winning any money there. Although I did want to go to their poker room, actually...and I guess that's okay because they just take a rake, but you aren't playing against the house.

I'm a little surprised that's the one they'll sell, I'd think you start shutting down some of the older ones, and keep that, unless it's not making any money.

If you can get to a bookstore before you go, pick up a copy of "The American Casino Guide 2009". It will run you about $17-$18, (Overstock.com has them for a lot less, but you don't have time to order it from there) but you'll save a couple of hundred by using the coupons they have included in the book. Free slot play, free match play and 2-for-1 buffet coupons.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the reminder. I got the 2008 guide and used a bunch of coupons last year. I'm salivating thinking about the half-price Haagen Daas milkshake already...

Put the match plays on black on roulette. Okay, so if you like blackjack, you're better off using it for that. That's the only time I play roulette, though. Match play.

Can those coupons be used at the craps table?

I will check that out today, thanks! I love coupons. The 2 for 1's won't help...I'll be there alone for the weekend, then on the business portion we won't be eating at buffets and even if we are, I think the Board members would be horrified if I pulled out coupons. But match play and discounts on stuff I can do by myself will be cool. I hope they have it at Borders, I have a coupon! :)

Some 2-for-1's are half price on solos. And the Board people should be impressed with your stretching dollars in this economy, rather than horrified!

They like to spend their money and have their little perks. We're mostly a not for profit type company, and our board members are all directors of public housing authorities...so they don't get to live it up at all in their normal lives, so once a quarter we indulge them in a little bit of fun. Their stipends are so small, it's almost necessary.

So even the Ocean's franchise has cut back? Is the next movie titled Ocean's Five?

I see George, Brad, Matt and Elliott. I'm good right there! Okay, I like Eddie Whatsisname from the Bud Light commercials, too...

I love Don Cheadle, but that accent almost rivalled Dick Van Dyke for badness...

The recession's hurting everyone.

$150 million doesn't go as far as it used to.

Just ask those AIG execs...

Mine's going to be $14 at Borders but I'm okay with that so that I'll be sure I have it before I leave.
