Jeopardy TOC Website is UP

#1 Post by trevor_macfee » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:41 am

I'll toot my own horn and let anyone interested know that you can get information about the Tournament of Champions at http://www.jeopardy.com/mini_sites/tour ... hamps-s25/.

There are matchups, photos, and interviews with the competitors, including a cringe-worthy interview with a certain nervous pastor from Maryland.

The tournament starts today.

Later today, I'll be updating the blog I was writing about my J! experiences last summer to include pre-TOC stuff leading up to the game that'll be shown on Friday. (But first I need to finish writing my sermon for our Lenten Service at 11 this morning - and 7 tonight.)

As always, I hope this stuff won't just be enjoyable but will be helpful/inspirational for everyone trying to get onto the show.

Retroactive good luck, Trevor! :)

So why did they start the visit to Vegas with a one-day Celebrity edition? :?

I did appreciate the shout-out to my cousin, BobMarleysGh0st, though.

Thanks for the good luck!

It's very strange that they started with the Celeb edition. Maybe stranger still that there was that orphan regular game on Monday.

The Celeb game was actually taped between the Quarterfinals and the Semi-finals/Finals taping (QFs were Thursday night, Celeb Friday, and SF/F Saturday). We weren't allowed to attend the Celeb taping, so last night was the first time I saw it. I thought the celebs acquitted themselves quite well - better than your average celebrity game show.

I also haven't seen tonight's or tomorrow night's quarterfinals, having been in isolation because of the wild-card situation (with 4 wild card spots in the semis, it would be a huge advantage for players in later games to get to watch the earlier games).

We did get to watch "Chicago" during our time in isolation. To determine the movie, those not in the first game voted on DVDs that had been screened by the producers to make sure no clues in the TOC came from any of the movies.

Wouldn't that sort-of be some help anyway - you would know that most likely none of the movies, or their stars would be the correct responses to any of the clues - thereby at least eliminating possible choices?

I think it would have been better for them to check the questions but not say anything about them not being anyway screened - that way you wouldn't know for sure and couldn't use it as a strategy.

And, of course, retroactive - good luck: I plan on reading your blog and have J! scheduled to record your show.

How did they do the "interviews"? They did not seem to be taken as part of a "conversation", but rather were more like "sound bite mining".

Also, did they tell the contestants not to be funny in the interviews? I would have wanted to give some light-hearted answers to some of those questions.

When will your first show air? I will want to be home for it, if possible. (Oops! I guess you stated that it will be Friday.)

For the interviews, while we were still in the "Green Room" they gave us each a sheet that had a bunch of possible questions (I think there were 12 -15). We were asked to have something to say to each one, but really didn't have the time to come up with anything concrete as we didn't know which ones we'd be asked.

When we went out onto the set for practice, we were called up two at a time to be interviewed. Someone off camera read the questions, then we answered, and were instructed to include the question in our answer (which seemed forced and on one of my questions I forgot to do that and started over - but they didn't cut the "bad" take as you can see). They seemed to choose who got which questions at random.

I know this is easy to say now, but I had great answers to a couple of the ones I didn't get asked.

And yes, my quarterfinal game is on Friday.
