Dang! Just missed Bix.
A couple of hours ago I was in my car and switched the radio to 790 (a sport's talk-show), and heard them say something like: "Thanks, Steffanie. That's Steffanie Stradley, Texans Chick who [couldn't hear -- somebody talked over it]."
Shoot! I'd have tried to call in. As Skip. (I think "Skippy" would make them suspicious.)
What did we miss, Bix?

I've been doing a regular gig over at SportsRadio 790 on Mondays at 10:50. Basically doing a game recap.
Today they called me to get my thoughts on this topic:
http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/11/ ... ffic-tick/
It's in the news but there aren't too many details in the paper, so I explained what is known publicly, and talked about other cases with similar fact situations.
You know, why would someone at 5PM drive away from getting a speeding ticket when the officer walked somewhere else and get a little less than a mile away?
In my experience, often those situations result from when there is a misunderstanding by the person not knowing that they are supposed to stay there. Like if they thought they were just getting a warning. Or thinking that the police officer left them to go after someone else. (This happened to a friend of mine.)

Just read your piece. I wonder what he threw out of the car along that .7 mile stretch.Bixby17 wrote:I've been doing a regular gig over at SportsRadio 790 on Mondays at 10:50. Basically doing a game recap.

If you are getting a ticket, you get a ticket.
If you are getting arrested, they can do an inventory search of your car to find anything, or even specks of anything.
By most accounts, Chester Pitts is an intelligent, well-spoken guy. Not someone you would expect to get the police chasing after.

Sure. I'll be glad to. Just promise me that you won't tell them to block all calls from anybody named Skip.Bixby17 wrote:If you like it, ask them to have me on for a longer segment or in studio. Email the show.wbtravis007 wrote:Bix said:

Something tells me that you wouldn't call him well-spoken if he were white. Kind of like when old Biden called Obama articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.

It came from me. I'm not completely drunk all the time. And I still have two brain cells to rub together.tlynn78 wrote:Something tells me that you wouldn't call him well-spoken if he were white. Kind of like when old Biden called Obama articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.

I think the Travis County DA and the Harris County DA are gonna make a deal to have the Texans draft the UT offensive line, and do joint prosecution using the resources of both offices.Appa23 wrote:After Fred Weary last year and now Chester Pitts, I am guessing that they will just preemptively arrest the entire Texan O-line next year around mid-seson.

Sav a lot of time and money, I bet.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

I was aware of the source, just surprised at the dig. I don't believe Bix is racist, and I don't think calling someone well-spoken is a bad thing, whatever their skin tone. And rubbing brain cells together can be dangerous around flammables, you know.It came from me. I'm not completely drunk all the time. And I still have two brain cells to rub together

I thought the Honolulu PD was considering doing that to the cast of Lost as well. Save some time.Appa23 wrote:After Fred Weary last year and now Chester Pitts, I am guessing that they will just preemptively arrest the entire Texan O-line next year around mid-seson.

And then they could write people out of the show for other reasons.

As for AB's comment, I've said before that right tackle Eric Winston is well spoken too, even though he resembles a (white) caveman. Maybe that makes me anti-cavemanny. Lots of football players aren't the best communicators in the world. Chester Pitts isn't one of those people.
So much for the end of ACs on this MB.
In any event, my speculation given the fact pattern was correct. It turns out that Pitts is claiming it was a misunderstanding. He says that his father has been a police officer for 30 years, and he has a lot of respect for the work that police officers do.

He is just a well spoken thoughtful guy. Not just for a football player, but in general. See for yourself:AnastasiaBeaverhousen wrote:Bixby17 wrote:I doubt anything.wbtravis007 wrote: Just read your piece. I wonder what he threw out of the car along that .7 mile stretch.

REC!
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
