One Mom story to share

#1 Post by kayrharris » Wed Feb 04, 2009 10:52 am

My mother always worried about everyone else and tried her best to treat everyone
good. She made friends with everyone - complete strangers, her kids friends, neighbors
and yes, even her doctor. She had a female doctor for the past 10 years or so, and my mother
loved her dearly and had to have her doctor's approval before she would even take a Tylenol.

She had photos of her doctor's grandchildren on her mantel in the living room. During the last
week of Mother's life, I spoke with her doctor twice a day when she came on her rounds to the
hospital. She even mentioned how it was difficult being objective with her treatment since my mom
was a friend as well as a patient.

The doctor came by Mother's room Friday after she passed away. She shed a few tears with the
family and she leaned down and kissed my mother on the cheek. I think I cried harder then than I
did when I saw my mother take her last breath. It was just a reminder of how my mother
treated everyone, including her doctor.

Beautiful story Kay.

And now I understand Kay a bit better also.

I wish I could have met your mom, Kay. I'm sure I would have adored her, too.

I suspect you have inherited many of her best qualities.

I am not trying to make this post about me, Kay, but I have to tell you..when I read this, I thought of my mom. Your description of your mom sounds just like my mom. There was a young fella who was sent to her house a couple times a week to do general housekeeping duties. HE started as an employee, and wound up a friend. At her funeral, I swear he cried harder than anyone there.

What I'm saying is, I'm thinking our moms prolly would've gotten along famously. What I'm also saying is, I want to thank you. In sharing your story, you not only brought to me warm feelings reading about your mom, but warm memories thinking about MY mom as well.

Hugs to you.

Dang, T-Bone, you made me tear up. I'm sure they would have enjoyed each other immensely.
May they both rest in peace. Like you, the memories mean a lot.
