Good speech

#1 Post by BackInTex » Tue Jan 20, 2009 11:23 am

I didn't listen. I read it off Drudge.

Probably a couple lines with a chance to make it into our historical rhetoric.

I thought that it was classy of him to thank Bush for being helpful.

I wonder why they didn't practice taking the oath.

There was stumbling over the words.

My daughter texted me that he screwed up twice.

I told her that I probably would, in front of 200 million people, but wouldn't have expected him to. Its not like he hasn't seen it and the words surprised him.

Do you think that he might have been a little nervous?

Oooh- I have to get over to hannity.com...they've GOT to be gloating over this.

I'm sure there'll be some cracks as to how he really wanted to say "So help me Allah" as well!

On the oath: Both President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts flubbed.

On the speech: I have not been a huge fan of President Obama's speaking style. His cadence in the past was always very distracting, and I thought he has tried to find a middle ground between Preacher and mainstream politician. Today, he dropped the preacher rhythm, and his speech was outstanding.

Precisely why I don't like to listen to him, or Rush. No matter what he does, they will critisize it.

I'm sure I will not agree or like many, if not most, of what he does (I hope I'm wrong about that). But I hope I certainly can see, and acknowlege, when he does well.

Anything is better than the cadence of Bush. I cringed everytime I had to listen to one of his speeches. And I usually liked what he had to say.

Funny, I thought his speech had more of the "black church oratory" style than I've heard Obama use in other venues. It was a good speech overall, but then there's never been any doubt about his rhetorical skills.

Did they both flub or did Obama just hesitate, hoping that Justice Roberts would catch the error and start over?

That's similar to a "clearly."

If President Obama had given most of his campaign speeches in my public speaking courses when I taught, he would have been lucky to get above a C+.

Today's speech was an "A" if not an "A+."

There was far less rising and falling in cadence in today's address than in any other speech I've heard him give.

I guess we just hear things differently. Or maybe my opinion is tarnished by 8 years of Bushisms.

Seems that Justice Roberts chose to go without notes.

I am thinking that Obama had the thing memorized and when Roberts got it 'wrong', Obama lost his footing and the whole thing started to crumble.

Justice Roberts screwed it up. Obama bailed him out like Roberts was a Wall Street trader.
