Boston area media has been quietly and not so quietly letting folks go. One long-time TV (>30 years) anchorman was forcibly retired at the end of 2008. Another longtimer, a reporter and sometime anchor, retired, possibly at his own request. On the radio side, our local news station had its principal anchorman retire last year and at the end of the year let go about a half-dozen of the on-air staff, including some who again have been there for years. Their principal sportscaster, their morning guy and also the voice of the NE Patriots, is retiring at the end of January. It is uncertain whether or not he will be replaced at all, since the canning of the afternoon guy has led to the news reader also reading the sports headlines. And those are just the stations I listen to.

All the media are hurting. The Boston Globe is seeking "voluntary" retirees with layoffs pending if not enough take them up on the severance package. The Herald did much the same last year.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
