I have one team, the New York Giants. I have one team I despise utterly, the Dallas Cowboys. Beyond that, my choice of which team to root for in a particular game is a matter of situational choice. During the season, if a particular team's winning or losing can effect either of my "teams," I cheer accordingly. Other than that, I decide on an ad hoc basis whom I would rather enjoy seeing win. I don't cheer for a particular division or conference. I have nothing against Pittsburgh, and I don't care much for the Cardinals franchise per se, but seeing a Tech coach win the Super Bowl as well as a sizable underdog winning is enough for me to pull for them next week.

I guess I shouldn't fault people who are unfortunate enough to live in the Dallas area. You've already shown your poor judgment. Now that I think about it, I had Warner last year as well (this is the first year since Leinart has been in the league that I haven't picked him. I took Warner because I figured he'd have the job by the beginning of the season. I was right.).WheresFanny wrote:I have been a Cardinal fan all season. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER ROOT FOR A TEAM OWNED BY BILL BIDWELL!
It has nothing to do with the Eagles (yesterday is all on Andy Reid and his piss-poor personnel choices the last couple of years).
It has EVERYTHING to do with the Pottsville Maroons.
http://www.basicbloganomics.com/2008/11 ... oning.html
Several years ago, when the NFL owners had their annual meeting, there was a bid for hear the story of the Pottsville Maroons, whose NFL title was stolen by the Chicago Cardinals in 1925.
Bidwell, as one of the three-member committee to look into this (how completely convenient), blocked it.
The only two owners who voted for it were Lurie (who is a monumental jerk on his own level but that has everything to do with the $8M he owes the city of Philadelphia and nothing to do with this story) and Rooney.
So, as the unofficial Bored rep for the people who work at Yeungling (and the people who drink it
) I will never root for a Bidwell-owned team. because of the Maroons.
Even if the Cardinals had been facing the COWBOYS yesterday, I wouldn't have rooted for the Cardinals. (Watching THAT game would have been like drinking battery acid, but that's beside the point).
Even if they had been facing the GIANTS, or the REDSKINS, I wouldn't have rooted for them.
So, GO STEELERS!

You can google "Bill Leavy" and "Super Bowl XL" if that didn't help.

Dan Rooney's a big Pottsville supporter. He's always in the minority group that every so often tries to get this discussion on the docket.mellytu74 wrote:I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER ROOT FOR A TEAM OWNED BY BILL BIDWELL!

I am well aware of the Frankford Yellow Jackets' role in the sad saga of the Maroons.
Frankly, I would not be surprised if the curse of the Maroons -- and not Andy Reid's incompetence (yeah, Andy, go ahead and trade your first round draft choice TWO YEARS IN A ROW) -- is at the root of the Eagles' inability to get to the Super Bowl OR win the Super Bowl once they get there.
Although, since the Cardinals are the eighth different NFC team in the Super Bowl in eight years, maybe it's parity.
Nah, it's the curse of the Maroons.

I just logged in to Chat, where it showed me and Clem. Then the screen went blank. I'm sure we would have had a scintillating conversation . . .
I bet that's about to happen here too. The blank, I mean, not the scintillation. I think I'll get out while the getting's good.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
