I am Very Happy Today
I just heard that Pres. Bush has commuted the sentences of the two border patrol agents (Campeon and Ramos). This makes me very happy.

I would have been happier with pardons, but the commutation will do.

Well, who could blame him? Remind me again, which ones are Campeon and Ramos? The two on the right?Sir_Galahad wrote:I just heard that Pres. Bush has commuted the sentences of the two border patrol agents (Campeon and Ramos). This makes me very happy.

I would have been happier with pardons as well. Their convictions on assult, bodily injury and civil rights violations were bogus. They were doing what we asked and paid them to do. The only charge not upheld, obstruction of justice, is the only one I might agree with (tampering with evidence).TheCalvinator24 wrote:I would have been happier with pardons, but the commutation will do.
Glad they will get out soon. Their long prison sentence was due to the fact that they were carrying a weapon at the time of the 'crimes'. Of course, carrying a weapon was required by their employer, the US Government. So in essence, their sentence was made harsher because they were properly doing thier job.

I'm glad that BiT agrees that we should do away with mandatory minimum sentencing.BackInTex wrote: Glad they will get out soon. Why would you think I have an opinion other than that? I'll admit there are times I think a sentence is too light, but I don't think the sentence should be legislated. I think judges should have more sense.silverscreenselect wrote:I'm glad that BiT agrees that we should do away with mandatory minimum sentencing.BackInTex wrote: Glad they will get out soon.
