Looking for Ideas
As many of you know, my step-daughter and I will be sending in our application for The Amazing Race when they open up the application process for the next season. And, as part of that process, we have to submit a three-minute video. So, I'm thinking, who better to ask for ideas for this video than a bunch of game show aficionados, perennial applicants and contestants. The only thing I saw on the latest posted application regarding the video was the statement "tell us why you would be perfect for The Amazing Race." I have a few ideas myself on what to put on the video but three minutes is a long time. I wish Uly was in the area to help with the shooting of the video as I don't even have a video camera anymore. The video has to be sent in VHS format and I may have to hire someone to do the shoot. So, if you have any ideas (short of my putting on the suit of armor again or waving my hamster in front of the camera) I would like to hear them. You can post any ideas you might have here or send me a PM.

They seem to take great delight in family teams that, especially with parent/child combination, hve some issues to work out. Can you two find an issue? neatnik and slob?Sir_Galahad wrote:As many of you know, my step-daughter and I will be sending in our application for The Amazing Race when they open up the application process for the next season. You seem to need a gimmick. Perhaps you are trying out so she can meet some young men?
Tough call, as from what we know from the various reality shows, many of the contestants are recruited, i.e. friends of friends of productions members who know they will make good TV.

My tip is to not make it too fancy.
A teacher at my school tried out and said that he was told (he made it to preliminary casting in Pittsburgh that year) that some videos looked like professional projects that told the producers NOTHING about the actual applicants.
I think your goal should be that the Amazing Race is a JOURNEY TO UNDERSTANDING EACH OTHER in some way.

This is what I am understanding as well and was going to be part of the video. Steph and I have not always been on the same wavelength, if you know what I mean. And, I do not recall ever seeing a parent and step on the show (although I could be mistaken) so this could be a first.dimmzy wrote:My tip is to not make it too fancy.

I would put your relationship on display. Shoot what it was like 'back then', 'now' and what you would each like it to become.
First write down what sense you want to portray, then from there figure out how to portray that.
Have something to triumph over. They love that stuff.

I think that being a "first" is an excellent idea, although TAR has seemed to gotten lazy and picked the same ol' "couples."

Can she be gay with you having a hard time coming to terms with it? I feel like you'd be a shoo-in with that story...
