Farmer Lum bought Farmer Abner's mule for $100.
The next day, the mule died, and Farmer Lum wanted his $100 dollars back.
Abner wouldn't give it to him, so Lum said, "Ok, I'll make my money back. I'll raffle off the mule."
Lum said, "How you going to raffle off a dead mule?"
"I won't tell anyone it's dead," said Abner.
A few weeks later, Lum saw Abner and asked, "How'd the raffle go?"
Abner said, "Great. I sold 500 tickets at $2 each, and cleared $898."
Surprised, Lum asked, "Weren't the people mad when they found out you raffled a dead mule?"
Abner said, "Only the guy who won. And I gave him his two dollars back."
I think this explains the current economic crisis.

..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

War is where the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

I always thought it was "Lem" and Abner. Short for Lemuel?BackInTex wrote:That IS funny. I did laugh out loud.

ETA: Well, I looked it up -- is is Lum. Short for "Columbus!" Apparently I misheard it as a little kid and never found out the correct version till now.
