What hissy fit? I didn't see a hissy fit. I saw a coach who was understandably disappointed in the player's decision, but nary a single sibilant of hissitude.

Yes. Pete was disappointed. He knows that his family told Mark that he should stay along with former players who are now in the NFL.
That being said, I feel he made the best decision for his financial future. He might be drafted in the top ten this year and maybe not even the top 20 if he stays until the 2010 draft. That translates to millions of dollars.

Re: ULy, Where You There
I am wondering, if Matt Cassell can be a successful pro with 0 college starts or whatever, and Matt Leinart is sitting on the bench after a relatively brilliant college career, why Sanchez should try to guess how it will work out. If he wants to go, he should go. I wouldn't want to be him, and maybe have to go to Detroit, but he's thought about that.
I think most players should complete their degrees, and most need all the time playing in college they can get, but that doesn't apply to everyone.

That is not what I think of as a hissy fit.

Re: ULy, Where You There
It is my understanding (Uly can correct me) from media accounts that the YouTube video linked is an abbreviated version, and that Carroll followed his comments by walking to the back of the room, refusing to sit by Sanchez as he fielded questionsfrom the media. Partially through the questioning period, Carroll stormed out of the room.silvercamaro wrote:Appa23 wrote:when Pete Carroll threw his hissy fit at the Mark Sanchez press conference?

In addition, if you compare Carroll's actions to those of likely other other coach who has had a player leave early, sometimes agains this advice, Carool did throw a hissy fit of the highest magnitude.
I was surprised, as he has the rep of being a "player's coach".
P.S. Here is a link to another's account of Carroll's performance:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/w ... index.html
It also includes the link to where Carroll posted on the Web his grievances with the decision.

It should be noted that Sanchez redshirted at USC, and he is getting his degree this spring after 4 years.Ritterskoop wrote:I am wondering, if Matt Cassell can be a successful pro with 0 college starts or whatever, and Matt Leinart is sitting on the bench after a relatively brilliant college career, why Sanchez should try to guess how it will work out. If he returned, he might have followed the path of Matt Leinart, taken one "easy" class in the fall and spent the rest of his time watching game film and preparing for games.

Re: ULy, Where You There
I know I see this all the wrong way, but I thought the point of college was to get a degree. Playing football (or any sport) is something you do while you accomplish that.
I understand about redshirting and why there is another year of eligibility, but that makes football the primary thing and not school. That means you are there to play a sport, and you play at going to class on the side.
Not cool.
I like that he is not taking that route.

Re: ULy, Where You There
One could argue that Pete was looking out for the best interests of Mark if he (and others) doesn't think he is ready for the NFL. I was going to bring up the point that skoop made about the fact that he will be graduating this spring.
I feel that coach was exasperated that Mark was going against everyone's advice including his brother and father. But I understand that there are people (and whack peeps) out there who think that Pete is full of himself and that's ok. I'm not here to defend him but I do believe that he cares about his players. He gave his blessing to Reggie Bush left early because he believed he was ready for the NFL. Leinart was not but that was because he needed surgery.

Do you keep a list of whack peeps? Am I on it? Is it because I said "clearly"?ulysses5019 wrote:

I think so. At least, I believe I think so. Basically, the whackness level has reached orange around here.

What would it take to get the whackness level to red, or preferably crimson? Hues are important.mrkelley23 wrote:I think so. At least, I believe I think so. Basically, the whackness level has reached orange around here.
