Spotting hbomb's name made you think of throwing people out the window?
In a high-class, polysyllabic, European way, of course! We have standards, you know.

In layman's terms.... we're Bored snobs! :P

I prefer "elite". More syllables.......

This reminds me of a project our really cool substitute Senior Comp. teacher gave us back in the day. She gave us a rough draft of some kind of essay, and told us to fix it up to make it sound more professional. I went to the absolute extreme and changed every small word I could think of a multi-syllabled synonym for. She thought it was hilarious (I've got to have that thing saved somewhere)....

We did a lot of creative writing projects in that class when Really Cool Substiture Senior Comp. Teacher took over mid-semester for Miss Pain in the Ass Bitch Teacher Who Thankfully Had To Have Female Surgery. If RCSSCT could see me now, she'd be like everyone else who berates me for missing my true calling.....

Yeah--you should write for the government. Keep what's REALLY going on hidden under a bunch of verbiage, and they may just hand you $700 billion...........

What's sad is I have no idea how I pulled that off when I was 17, because I think my knowledge of vocabulary is even worse now. Even you throw out words I don't understand a lot, and that's almost unfathomable....

I remember having to do an assignment like that in like 9th grade or so--describe a picture. My use of "verdant vastness" sent the teacher into spasms of ecstasy.

I got real a few years later, thank goodness. Journalism class smacked all the flowery out of my writing, for the better. I don't like to go all George Will on people.....

Make sure you take away the matches.
Have they ever considered constructing it out of, say, metal?

Then there'd be nothing to bet on in Sweden except hockey...........
Here we go again.......

What in the hell is verdant vastness? (Besides a great name for an MM....)

My real writing specialty was doing papers on subjects I never really bothered to research much or books I never really read. I never got a bad grade on any paper I ever did.... and I never worked on one any less than 24 hours before it was due.....

I could BS people (at least in writing) into believing I know just about anything.... at least until I got to this Bored.... too many even smarter asses out there..... :P

It must've been all that stuff LB's co-workers used to drink that made me fat!

Keep it in mind, Weedhopper . . . .

To answer Mini's signature line (What Would Hello Kitty Do?): Yes, Virginia, there is an answer. And since the Charles Fox Singers have not stepped up (hey, even they have their standards)........

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And threw it out the window.

Chorus:
The window, the window,
The second story window.
High, low, low, high
They threw it out the window

Old King Cole was a merry old soul, a merry old soul was he.
He called for his pipe and he called for his bowl
And he threw them out the window.

(Repeat chorus)

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her poor dog a bone.
When she got there, the cupboard was bare
So she threw it out the window.

(Repeat chorus)

Little Jack Horner sat in a corner, eating a fresh baked pie.
He put in his thumb and he pulled out a plum
And he threw it out the window.

(Repeat chorus)

Yankee doodle came to town
Riding on a pony
He stuck a feather in his cap
And threw it out the window.

(Repeat chorus)

A tisket, a tasket, a green and yellow basket.
I wrote a letter to my love
And threw it out the window.

(Repeat chorus)

Jack Sprat could eat no fat
His wife could eat no lean.
And so between the both of them.
They threw it out the window.

(Repeat chorus)
"Again" - Herb Brooks (as played by Kurt Russell)
