Lack of class
Cole Hamels of the Philthies said today that he considered the Mets of the last two years "choke artists." Now that the bullpen problems are cured (I hope), I'm looking forward to the Mets making him eat his words. --Bob

Ummmm...at this point I don't think that's a lack of class, I think it's a statement of fact.Bob78164 wrote:Cole Hamels of the Philthies said today that he considered the Mets of the last two years "choke artists." But now that they've finally got a Putz we'll see what happens.
And yes, I only posted so that I could say that again. I'm immature, sue me.

I thought that maybe that this was a delayed post about Oklahoma keeping its starters in the game against Missouri and then actively throwing the ball just so the team could reach 60+ points.
With Stoops' terrible BCS bowl record, it is not a good idea to tick off the "football gods".

Isn't calling a team the Philthies on the same level?Bob78164 wrote:Cole Hamels of the Philthies said today that he considered the Mets of the last two years "choke artists." Now that the bullpen problems are cured (I hope), I'm looking forward to the Mets making him eat his words. --Bob

Nah. I'm not on the Mets and my words on this subject don't make the paper. It's one thing for fans to call the Mets "choke artists." That's passion and trash talking. It's different when it's one of the competitors. --BobRitterskoop wrote:Isn't calling a team the Philthies on the same level?Bob78164 wrote:Cole Hamels of the Philthies said today that he considered the Mets of the last two years "choke artists." If the same game had been played earlier in the season, you might have made a better point. Considering the timing of that particular game, however, Stoops would have been unfair to his players and fiscally irresponsible to his employer if he had not given his team every possible opportunity to amass the yardage and "style points" needed to place as highly as possible in the rankings that ultimately decided in which bowl game the team would play. It appears to me that they did exactly what they needed to do, under those circumstances.Appa23 wrote: I thought that maybe that this was a delayed post about Oklahoma keeping its starters in the game against Missouri and then actively throwing the ball just so the team could reach 60+ points.

BTW, how have the "football gods" looked upon the Cornhuskers in recent years?

I will admit that the 2000s have resembled the OU years between Switzer and Stoops. We just hope that Pelini will get the kind of results that Stoops did down there, although Bo has a lesser talent pool with which to work.silvercamaro wrote:BTW, how have the "football gods" looked upon the Cornhuskers in recent years?Appa23 wrote: I thought that maybe that this was a delayed post about Oklahoma keeping its starters in the game against Missouri and then actively throwing the ball just so the team could reach 60+ points.

back atcha.
OU would have made the BCS championship even if they won by only 20 points, rather than 40 points. The computers would have guaranteed it based on SOS. I would have been fearing an injury to Bradford, if I was Stoops.
Now, let's hope that your Sooners show those Gators what real football is.

Oooh, widdle Cole Hamels -- MVP OF THE WORLD SERIES -- made widdle Bobby and all the Mutts fans cwy.Bob78164 wrote:Cole Hamels of the Philthies said today that he considered the Mets of the last two years "choke artists." Here is the exact exchange.
Question: "Do you think the Mets are choke artists? A lot of Mets fans think they are. Do you look at it from afar and say, honestly, we know they are going to find a way to lose this thing?"
Hamels: "Last year and this year, I think we did believe that. Three years ago, we didn't, because they smoked everybody. I really thought that was the year they were going to the World Series. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. That's kind of what we believe and I think we will always believe it until they prove us wrong."
[yeah, that bold face language is a real slam, Bob.]
Q: "Wow. It's worth repeating. You say the Mets are choke artists?"
Hamels: "Yeah, for the past 2 years they've been choke artists."
The Mets' collapse in 2007 ranks with the worst in baseball history.
I was sitting in the third-base grandstand in 1964 when Chico Ruiz stole home to start the Phillies' slide so I know these things.
Hamels on the smackdown the Phillies players gave Victorino after he homered off CC Sabathia in the NLDS.
"When Jose Reyes hits home runs, he puts his finger up like he won the game, and he might have only hit it in the first inning or the third inning," Hamels said in the interview. "When Shane did it, he did the same, exact thing. So we said, 'Shane, this doesn't win the game, we still have a lot of game to play. Why are you trying to be like Jose Reyes?' That was kind of where it came from. Even though you hit the big home run, you don't need to pimp it. You just need to run around the bases and kind of get the game started. That's kind of where it came from."
Jose Reyes mouthed off in spring training. How Johan Santana would give the Mutts the division.
Santana won 16 games.
Nice.
As many games as a guy who has M-O-Y-E-R on the back of his uniform because M-E-T-H-U-S-E-L-A-H had too many letter.
Does K-Rod give the Mutts the division? Maybe. Maybe not.
That's why they play the games.

Re: Lack of class
We'll see if all of that money and KRod ultimately ends the bullpen woes of the "little pin stripers". It should or the Metropolitans need to hire another GM or why not develop some bullpenners from within the minor league organizations?
As for the "Blew Crew", I don't know if 3B Casey Blake was worth $35M to re-sign? Manny at $35M for one year (which Scott Boros turned down) was more of a buy, at least economically speaking, since Mo puts fannies in the seats!
Once again cash strapped McCourt is jerking L.A. fans around again by making second and third tier player signings and avoiding the premier stars on the market. Not that the Dodgers should be in the Putz, K Rod market but re-signing Class 1 free agents who were already on our team (like Manny) should be our priority.
