Calories

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Fri Nov 23, 2007 7:59 am

I decided I was going to keep track of the calories I consumed yesterday. I quit after my first helping of dessert. The total then was 3050.

We had ham yesterday. I think that it's more difficult to overload on ham than Turkey. Also, since we sort of threw together dinner, we had fewer dishes, which makes a difference. (We had ham, stuffing, homemade cranberries, Moroccan Carrots, pearl onions simmered in broth and Olive flat bread. For desert, homemade gingerbread cake and pumpkin pie.)

I didn't eat the Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake.

I did have the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, and the Key Lime Cheesecake.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

LOL - made me laugh.

I had the pound cake - only one slice.

I had the Heath Bar Crunch - 1/2 the carton

I had the NY Super Fudge Chunk - maybe 1/4 carton

I also had some of those truffle thingies. I stopped counting at 5.

I ate 2 helpings each of prime rib, turkey, mashed potatoes, & whole kernel corn.

I also ate 2 pieces of cheesecake.

Drank 3 glasses of wine and a beer (not all with T-day dinner).

I was expecting to have put on 5 pounds.

I usually follow the same menu -- same turkey, same dressing, same vegetables, etc. Since I always cook Thanksgiving dinner, usually for a lot of people, following a standard plan has brought efficiency. When I was at the store on Tuesday, however, I spotted a bin of beautiful, fresh green beans and bought a couple of pounds. So, I fixed those with brown butter and almonds. That dish is what brought the most raves. I don't know whether they were so absolutely delicious or they were different than the expected, or both.

I vote for delicious. I thought so, anyway.

Since this is the "Calories" thread, I should note my firm religious belief that browned butter contains neither fat nor calories when it goes on top of something that obviously is so good for you as lovely, fresh, green veggies.

I made green beans as well. Mine were put in a zip-lock bag, added some olive oil, shook the bag up, emptied the beans onto a stoneware cookie sheet, sprinkled slivered almonds on top and seasoned with seasoned salt. Baked for 20 minutes.

They were delish.

My caloric intake was about 1200, not that I count or anything. :)

Religious orders aren't just for convents any more.

This same recipe works well for asparagus. Just sprinkle a little fresh Parmesan cheese on top just before it's done.

I do it with broccoli too - minus the almonds.

There is something about seasoned salt that makes everything taste good.
