What a tragic loss. I'm saying a quick prayer for your family ... and my own siblings.

I logged onto the Bored and rejoiced, 'cos the Kahoona had posted.

Then I read your message and cried a little.

I'm so sorry, Mike.

And I called my younger sister, especially since today's her birthday.

First thought was good - nice to see your name back on these boards.

I'm so sorry about your sister. I can only imagine how loosing a sibling can feel.

I appreciate all the condolences and kind words. It still hurts, of course; it will probably keep hurting for quite some time to come. But the support does make it easier to take. Thanks.

Quick update: I just happened across a beautiful tribute to my sister on Youtube, that should give you some idea as to the impact she had on so many lives.

Please come by as often as you can. I know it is hard right now given all in your life, both family and work situation.

But some silliness can do good, some days.

Mike, I just saw this and I am so sorry for all you've been going through. There is only one direction your life can go and that is up. Hang in there Kahuna. We're here for you.

So sorry for your loss.

I believe you said you were going to look into extending some vacation time you were taking. Does your employer have bereavement time? It should surely apply for your additional time off.

No, they don't (security is not a business that offers very much in the way of benefits; we don't get paid holidays, though if we work on holidays, we get paid time and a half). However, my boss put me down on the payroll as being in training for those 4 days, so I didn't have to burn vacation time after all. He did this with the approval of a vice-president of the security firm, we're just not telling the payroll dept. what really happened.

Thanks to you, and everyone else for your kind thoughts. It does help me work through this.
