RIP Forrest J Ackerman

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sat Dec 06, 2008 6:00 am

He was the Harry Knowles of my generation, a science fiction and horror film buff, whose magazine, Famous Monsters of Filmland, was devoted to witty, offbeat discussions of the many cheesy genre films of the 50s and 60s (those articles were also filled with cheesy pictures that gave some of us our first glance at the creatures in those films) and was a huge favorite of young fans like me during that era. Ackerman is credited with inventing the term "sci fi."

Ackerman was an influence to many of today's top filmmkers and writers including Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, and Tim Burton.

Age 92.

For that, I'll forgive him. RIP, Forrie. --Bob
