Lyrically Speaking Day 16 - 12/2/08

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Tue Dec 02, 2008 5:20 am

Well, we're coming down the home stretch. Just 5 more LS games to go!

Today, we go way, way back. I'm pretty sure Grak and Kronk, also known as "The Cavemen," covered these songs below, but I know them best because they were performed at one time or another by my all-time favorite singer, the amazing Miss Ella Fitzgerald. They also include my all-time favorite song, which you'll find at #9. One point for each title (since I've already told you the performer). You have until tomorrow at noon Eastern to post your answers. Enjoy!

1. Each morning I get up with the sun
Start a-hopping, never stopping
To find at night no work has been done

2. I viewed the morning
With much alarm
The British Museum
Had lost its charm

3. I could cry salty tears
Where have I been all these years
Little wow, tell me now...

4. Another bride, another June
Another sunny afternoon
Another season, another reason
For...

5. Just imagine someone
Waiting at the cottage door
Where two hearts become one
Who could ask for anything more?

6. I got daisies
In green pastures
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more?

7. (Song Title)
Just you and I beneath the stars
Wrapped in the arms of sweet romance
The night is ours

8. I never planned in my imagination
A situation
So heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center
Just you and me

9. Although he may not be the man some
Girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key

10. I never knew the charm of spring
Never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
Never missed a warm embrace
Til....

11. Could you coo?
Could you care
For a cunning cottage we could share?
The world will pardon my mush

12.The way you hold your knife
The way we danced 'til three
The way you changed my life
No....

13. Don't mind telling you in my humble fash
That you thrill me through with a tender pash
When you said you care, imagine my emoshe
I swore then and there permanent devoshe

14. I must win some handsome guy
Can't go on like this
I could blossom out I know
With somebody just like you, so...

15. I was a fool to fall, and get that way
Hi ho, alas and also lackaday
Although I can't dismiss
The memory of his kiss,
I guess he's (Most of Song Title)

16. Just one look at you
My heart grew tipsy in me
You and you alone bring out the gypsy in me
I love all the many charms about you
Above all, I want my arms about you

17. I dropped it, I dropped it
Yes, on the way I dropped it
A little girlie picked it up
And took it to the market

18. I tell you, I'm not asking any miracle
It can be done, it can be done
I know a clergyman who would grow lyrical
And make us one, and make us one

19. Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day

20. You say "ee-ther" and I say "eye-ther"
You say "nee-ther" and I say "neye-ther"
Ee-ther, eye-ther, nee-ther, neye-ther...
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

With a tiny little adjustment, this could be Gershwin day! Was that intentional or coincidental? It could also be Judy Garland/Fred Astaire day, both of which help me out because I'm not a real Ella Fitzgerald fan (I know, that's going to cost me any judgment calls and totally blow any humour points for the rest of the game. Ha!).
I Love A Gershwin Tune
1. Each morning I get up with the sun
Start a-hopping, never stopping
To find at night no work has been done

Fascinatin' Rythym - I have a mental block over the word rhthym. I can never spell it correctly!

2. I viewed the morning
With much alarm
The British Museum
Had lost its charm

A Foggy Day in London Town

3. I could cry salty tears
Where have I been all these years
Little wow, tell me now...

How Long Has This Been Going On

4. Another bride, another June
Another sunny afternoon
Another season, another reason
For...

Makin' Whoopee

5. Just imagine someone
Waiting at the cottage door
Where two hearts become one
Who could ask for anything more?

Nice Work If You Can Get It

6. I got daisies
In green pastures
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more?

I Got Rhythym (what did I tell you about that word??)

7. (Song Title)
Just you and I beneath the stars
Wrapped in the arms of sweet romance
The night is ours

Under a Blanket of Blue

8. I never planned in my imagination
A situation
So heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center
Just you and me

Get Out of My Dreams and Into My Castle

9. Although he may not be the man some
Girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key

Someone to Watch Over Me (this is your all time fave? I love this song! But my fave version is Willie Nelson's on the Stardust album)

10. I never knew the charm of spring
Never met it face to face
I never knew my heart could sing
Never missed a warm embrace
Til....

April in Paris

11. Could you coo?
Could you care
For a cunning cottage we could share?
The world will pardon my mush

I've Got a Crush on You

12.The way you hold your knife
The way we danced 'til three
The way you changed my life
No....

They Can't Take That Away From Me

13. Don't mind telling you in my humble fash
That you thrill me through with a tender pash
When you said you care, imagine my emoshe
I swore then and there permanent devoshe

S'wonderful

14. I must win some handsome guy
Can't go on like this
I could blossom out I know
With somebody just like you, so...

Lady Be Good

15. I was a fool to fall, and get that way
Hi ho, alas and also lackaday
Although I can't dismiss
The memory of his kiss,
I guess he's (Most of Song Title)

But Not For Me (one of my fave Garland songs)

16. Just one look at you
My heart grew tipsy in me
You and you alone bring out the gypsy in me
I love all the many charms about you
Above all, I want my arms about you

Embraceable You

17. I dropped it, I dropped it
Yes, on the way I dropped it
A little girlie picked it up
And took it to the market

A Tisket, A Tasket

18. I tell you, I'm not asking any miracle
It can be done, it can be done
I know a clergyman who would grow lyrical
And make us one, and make us one

So Why Did You Vote Yes on Prop 8?

19. Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day

The Man I Love

20. You say "ee-ther" and I say "eye-ther"
You say "nee-ther" and I say "neye-ther"
Ee-ther, eye-ther, nee-ther, neye-ther...

I believe Beastie said he was putting some together, and he's an excellent LS Meister. But this is one of those games that anyone can just start hosting. I was hoping somebody would pick up the QoD Meister's mantle for Dec., but so far nobody has.

In times past, the winner of one month would host the next (both QoD and LS worked this way) but that's fallen by the wayside. Now it's pretty much just "Hey, nobody's done an LS game for a while..I think I'll throw one together!"

Oh, and I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!

TLAF learned how to dance the Big Apple in the ladies' washroom at the Nixon Grand theater the night she and several coworkers went to see the Chick Webb band and its new singer, Miss Ella Fitzgerald.

The washroom attendant was a fine dancer and taught them all the latest dances when they went to concerts at the Nixon Grand.

So a special hug to #17.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Does that mean no more Lyrically Speaking at all, or might someone else take over hosting for a bit? Thank-You for all of your efforts, I have totally enjoyed playing!

I believe Beastie said he was putting some together, and he's an excellent LS Meister. But this is one of those games that anyone can just start hosting. I was hoping somebody would pick up the QoD Meister's mantle for Dec., but so far nobody has.
Yes, I am still planning on running the Second Annual Winter LS, though it means there will be a bit of a holiday break in between KT's and mine (Unless someone picks it up in the interim). I plan on starting January 5th and running for 10 weeks this time. taking the game well into mid-March......

I've just got to give ES a bit of a break and get some more games written this month.....
