Oh.... Dear.... God
That National Anthem was absolutely atrocious.....
Completely horrendous!
I am going to have my eardrums surgically repaired now....

If you're talking about the one before the Dallas-Seattle game, I couldn't agree with you more. This is what the American Idol generation has brought us to. It's what my daughter's music teacher calls "unnecessary verbal fireworks." Who was that singer?

Nobody I had ever heard of....
It was mind-numbingly terrible... but then again, I'm the only person on earth who didn't like Whitney Houston's rendition before Super Bowl 25....

According to one article I found, it was Demi Lovato. I believe she is from a kid's movie or TV show.kroxquo wrote:Who was that singer?

Oh Geez, now I know where I've seen her face. She's from Camp Rock. We have entirely too much Camp Rock merchandise at the Squiggly......
That would also explain why The Jonas Brothers were up in the booth with Joe and Troy. I can't wait for the halftime show.....

Eric said, "Let's rewind the game and watch it" Meanwhile, Sam quickly found it on youtube. Oh goodness. I'm pretty tolerable of a lot of music, but this is awful!

OK, Jonas Bros are now on the tv. Eric said, "Notice how the only people the camera is focusing on are the people around the stage?" He doesn't think that Jonas Bros and football mix too well.
OK, Eric's opinion was somewhat confirmed at the end of the song, as the camera panned to the audience with barely a hip-hip-hooray from anyone they showed. LOL!

I guess you all were not up early enough nor did you have relatives tuned in to the Early Show earlier in the week to hear "what has happenned to Liza Minelli". No, she was not singing "The Star Spangled Banner", she was singing "New York, New York". Sorta.
If you are a professional singer, or even a bathroom singer, for that matter, & they tell you throat surgery will make you sing "like you used to", or even close to it, please refuse & croak on with whatever you've still got. Because its got to have been better than this. Please.

And yet did you read the comments on it on Youtube (at least the clip I saw it on) - every single one, except for mine - is gushing about how amazing and wonderful it was. I'm going to be ageist and guess that almost all of those commenting were under 16.cindy.wellman wrote:Eric said, "Let's rewind the game and watch it" Meanwhile, Sam quickly found it on youtube. Ha, no I didn't check out the comments. I heard the video from across the room. That is very funny.kroxquo wrote:And yet did you read the comments on it on Youtube (at least the clip I saw it on) - every single one, except for mine - is gushing about how amazing and wonderful it was. Okay, to each their own.
I just went and watched the video. I didn't see or hear anything wrong, theatrical but okay.
At least she remembered all the words!

Re: Oh.... Dear.... God
I had to look up her age, because my son was telling me she was 19 or 20, which meant I wouldn't have cut her much slack. But she was just 16 in August, so I will forgive her the ridiculous attempts at vocal runs and stylizations that she has no business doing. I'll forgive her the cry in her voice that EVERY SINGLE young singer seems to be doing these days. And I will say this: if that performance was truly live, as it appeared to be, she gets a lot of admiration from me for staying (mostly) on pitch, and not losing her composure in the face of loud cheers (and probably other ruder noises that we at home didn't get to hear) from a rowdy crowd in a difficult place to sing. Yes, she yelled it as much as sang it, but honestly, so do a lot of Broadway performers who win Tony awards for their performances.

Demi was in the news for Camp Rock about the same time last summer that Cito Gaston was rehired as Jays manager, two interesting names together as one FNGD question.
And I dint know at that time how well known Jonas Bros. were going to be.
And THANKFULLY 6 months down the line these performers are still known for their work -- no real, faked, imaginary or imagined naughtiness, bad behaviour, or exploitataion upping their publicity scores. may it stay that way.

Listening on youtube, I think she has guts just to be out there in front of the immense crowd.
I will propose a scale for stadium sports event music performance, with "0" being Dan Aykroyd's Soul Man, anbd "10" Pavarotti Nessun Dorma in Turin, maybe Demi gets bout maybe 6.0

if we come down to it, the funny figurations in her vocal were merely a demiquaver (or perhaps more precisely but only half the time, a demisemiquaver), and when she got a country Dodge truck feel, a hemidemi(semi)quaver.TheConfessor wrote:I haven't seen the performance in question, but if her name is Demi, maybe her goal is a 5.etaoin22 wrote:Listening on youtube, I think she has guts just to be out there in front of the immense crowd.
