new entry in bad celeb baby name pool

Ashlee Simpson and Paul Wentz's new son is named Bronx Mowgli. I am not making this up.
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

There is really no snappy comeback to counter that name. Which is pretty amazing. It's a stumper, it is.
Well, then

Hmmmm....Funny names haven't hurt Oprah (typo of a Biblical name)....or Condoleezza (looks like a typo, or like it should rhyme with "pizza").....or even Barack any, have they?!

Rumer Willis was on CSI New York this week -- when I first saw her in the previews, I though "Oh, poor thing, she got her father's looks!" -- but she turned out to be rather cute! And the funny name didn't stand in her way in the slightest. We get used to a name pretty quickly once it's attached to a real person, in my experience (so sez the Grandma of Miracle Diamond, Cherish Isabella, Elijah Payne, Destinee Opal, Serenity Gayle, Justice Marie....and baby Johnny!)

Slate has a current article on how many powerful women in the nation's capital happen to be named "Michelle" these days. For one thing -- it was incredibly popular from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, when most of these women were born, sorta the Caitlin or Madison of its day, so there are a whole hella lot of 'em! And someone pointed out that the most powerful woman in our government at the moment, at least until Jan. 20, is named "Condoleezza"!

Yeah, but none of those names will get their owners stuffed into their lockers at school. They are different, but not ridiculous, unlike names like Pilot Inspektor, Kal-el, etc..

Justice is actually becoming a fairly popular name. I've seen it quite often lately. It's kinda cool.

Bronx Mowgli is destined for a future of endless wedgies.

I have an male patient in his mid-80s named Justus. He always asks how his little namesake is doing :)

I'd rather meet a Bronx or a Bristol or even a Kal-El than another Ashley/Ashlee/AshLeigh or Caitlin/Kaitlin/KateLynne.

Couple of "funny-named" folks I know in real life:

Golden Dickey (very dignified elderly guy -- don't know if he got picked on in his youth, but I expect he did! However, no one teases him about it now.)

Right Ball III (the third, yet!) Around my age. It's a family name (obviously!) He knows he gets teased and has always given it back as good as he gets.

Link to The Bendy Andrew thread at Salon. Pretty funny!

I don't post on that one; I think you have to have some kind of paid account to post. I don't pay for no message bored, people! But it's a fun read.

Back in the late sixties/early seventies, the Oakland Athletics had a great pitcher by the name of Vida Blue. He was OK with it, but Charlie Finley, the team owner, wanted him to change his first name to 'True' (to become 'True Blue'). Blue refused to do this, and told Finley that if he thought it was such a great name, maybe he should change HIS name to True; Finley did not do so.

I find it interesting that these celebrities who do give their kids goofball names do not do the same to themselves. If they really think that those names are so wonderful, why don't they change their own names?
Innocent, naive and whimsical. And somewhat footloose and fancy-free.

We have a book listing GW's ancestors back to the original immigrant to the colonies in 1720. Somewhere in there is a distant relative named Iza Daisy. Must have seemed a good idea to the parents at the time.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
