Cheap Bastard Alert! (Borders)

#1 Post by sunflower » Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:00 am

I just had a great online shopping experience at Borders. I had $15 in Borders bucks to use so I figured I'd get some gifts.

If you spend $25 you get free shipping (to compete with Amazon, I assume).

You can stack their coupons too...
40% off an item with a $20 purchase DMB5387A
30% off one item DML5388Y
25% off one item BAP1127A

I bought 4 items, one was already 30% off. I saved $9 with the coupons above. So $35 worth of stuff was down to $26, just clearing what I needed to spend for free shipping. Minus my Borders bucks, but after tax, I only spent $12.

Even better, I went to Borders through ebates, which is offering double cash back right now so I will be getting 8% back on my purchase, which is just over $2.

$35 worth of stuff for $10 out of my pocket. I love it!!!

Here's my shopping "score" for the week.

While at Toys-R-Us last week to buy Lizbit's piano and hoop, I noticed the Elmo Live doll. My thoughts ran along two parallel liines: "Princesa Isabella needs Elmo!" and "I'd like to play with that." I knew that if I played my cards right, those thoughts were not mutually exclusive.

In my e-mail was a Toys-R-Us coupon good for 15 percent off any one item purchased through yesterday. In my purse was a $30 rebate card that would expire in a week. A quick price check on the internet showed that the listed price for Elmo, $59.99, was the same at Target and a whopping $.11 less at WalMart, so I headed for the toy store. Including sales tax, my net out-of-pocket total was $25.02.

I've been pressing Elmo's foot to get him to blow me kisses all morning. I love Elmo.

Have you ever actually gotten anything from Ebates? They've never even recorded my purchases, so I stopped bothering a while back.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

Oh yes, I am up to something like $60 in cash back, I've gotten 2 checks so far. You have to start it through ebates and finish the transaction or you lose the tracking, but I've never had a problem.

That is an awesome deal!! I want elmo too! :)

With this economy there are deals to be had everywhere...I am not planning on paying full price for anything this holiday season, except maybe food and liquor.

First, check your credit card perks. Chase, at least, has a rewards plan where if you shop online by first going through the Chase site (www.rewardsplusshopping.com), you can earn extra points on your card. Since I always get the cash ($25.00 per 2500 points), it's like getting an extra percent discount for every additional point I earn.

Second, look at Windows Live Search Cashback. They, too, have a rebate program by first searching for the online store's site through Live Search. I'm in the market for an iPod Touch. Search on "Apple", and you get a link to eBay/PayPal. Pay for a "Buy It Now" item via Paypal, and you can get a 25% rebate. There are limits (12 transactions per account, one per online search session, $2500 total cashback limit, etc.), but nothing too bad. I used this for my new computer through hp.com, and saved several hundred dollars.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Ok, I have a neat tip to nab a $25 gift card at CVS Pharmacies. If you have a prescription at a different drug store, call CVS w/the RX number and phone number of the other store, and tell them you want them to have it transferred to them. They'll give you one gift card per transferred prescription when you pick up them up. They'll sometimes require a coupon for this offer, but if you don't have one, ask before you go to the trouble of switching if they have any behind the counter; they usually do.
