The Bored

#1 Post by danielh41 » Thu Nov 20, 2008 9:46 pm

I was just clicking around on Yahoo, and I went into the GC for the first time in a long time. The place is pretty dead now, but I spent a great deal of time there back in 2000-2002, more so than the more public bored. I clicked on the Files section which still contains stuff from seven and eight years ago, and I was reminded why I first joined the Bored back in November 1999. We were all committed to helping each other get on that wonderful game show where one didn't have to have impress some contestant coordinator to get on. We celebrated when one of us did get on, and we kept on helping and encouraging each other in our own individual quests. The files that are still there in the GC reveal that sense of cooperation, ranging from a template on which to write down answers in the phone game to a database of audition questions.

I don't think I've watched an entire episode of WWTBAM in six years. It just isn't the same without that phone game, without that level playing field and knowing that any of us could get on with just a little trivia knowledge and a little luck. I miss those days of cooperation.

I am obviously very passionate about my views, and I do not apologize for that. I don't feel that anyone should apologize for expressing their deep convictions. I do apologize for starting a thread that has caused so much discord on the board. I posted it for the wrong reasons. My conservative friends and I will sometimes say to each other "liberals are crazy," when we discuss some of the positions that they take, and I was amused that some psychologist was attempting to validate the hyperbolic "liberals are crazy" idea. I didn't give it that much thought after I read it until, a couple of days later, I read some of the mindless insults leveled here at the only real conservative on either major party ticket. And said insults were still coming over a week after the election. So I went back in my history and found the last liberal-critical thing I had read and posted it to the Bored.

I certainly underestimated the level of indignation that resulted from it. Had I known what the response would have been, I would not have posted it. So I apologize to almost everyone here (I am excluding Mini from the apology for her total lack of any class whatsoever--not that I expect her to read this anyway) for the discord I have caused.
