Yeah, that is my first choice. Say R7 then other northern commuter routes. Also open to south Jersey PATCO or other SEPTA Regional routes.

I got November 10th off using vacation time and since (Christie) 11/11 is a Federal holiday, I have a long 4-day weekend. I kept it open in case I needed to do relocation stuff or scouting, as they originally were talking late November (now December 8th is tentative date). I'll be doing remote research before then.

I see a couple of good listings in Bala Cynwyd. Weekday train to center city. Large nearby shopping plaza, near Schuylkill Expy. Any local thumbs up or down?

There are many muilti-million dollar homes there. It's a short commute. Go for it!

Bala is good.

Also up near where I am -- Plymouth Meeting or Conshohocken. The R6 train and bus backup, similar to Bala.

If you want the city itself, I recommend Roxborough or Andorra at the NW section of the city. Also train with bus backup (the R6).

The prices for all of them -- Bala, Plymouth, Conshy, Roxborough or Andorra -- should all be comparable.

Tomorrow and Tuesday, I'll be looking at neighborhoods in person.

Some places I've looked up online:
Fountain Arms Apartments - Roxborough, and another entry near Andorra Mall
4401 Conshohocken Avenue west side near Bala
A couple of entries on Red Lion Rd, on both sides of the NE Phila. airport.

A cousin of mine also mentioned another place downtown, the Dorchester near Rittenhouse Sq, but a quick look shows it is mostly condos and the rental units may be quite expensive, probably more than Bob J's suggestion, which I may be able to pull if I were to go studio and sell my car to my sister.

I also get transit benefits at work that would reduce my commuter train costs.

I scouted neighborhoods on Monday and Tuesday and here are the leading contenders:

1. City Line area (Bala R6)
2. Along Wissahickon Ave between School House Lane and Rittenhouse Street (Chelton Ave R8).
3. Fox Chase (other end of R8)

I will probably go back Friday-Sat. to look at specific buildings I researched online and saw in person. If I don't like the places in these areas I'll expand to Roxborough-Andorra. However there are so many places in the Bala area I think I'll wind up there.

Tomorrow I'll be touring two apartment complexes near City Line Ave on the city side of Bala station. I may stick around and go to the Philadelphia Kixx game Saturday, they are the indoor soccer team that survived the MISL league collapse and started up in a new league.

The "Centralized Quality Review Staff" that measures the quality of taxpayer service nationwide and recommends improvements. I will be assigned to a team that monitors accounts phones.
