...to all of you for your kind words and thoughts.
Losing a loved one is never easy, of course. But, all things considered, this was as good as one could hope for. Dad passed at home, in his sleep. Given his opinion of hospitals and nursing homes, we know he would not have wanted it any other way. Mom is still doing very well; we are telling her to just relax for a couple of days. Granted, there are a couple of in-the-moment things that she must tend to...but beyond that, we kids are doing our damnedest to just get her to take it easy for a bit.
All of this would naturally be stressful enough. And then, to top it all off, our furnace broke down on Sunday as well. When the overnight lows drop into the teens...well, something has to be done, and done quickly. The repairman came out on Monday, looked things over and - making the long story short - we had a new furnace installed on Tuesday. Fortunately, they were out of here in plenty of time for us to get to the visitation.
I could go on, boring you to tears and pumping out the cliches. But I did want to give special thanks to all of you. Looking back at the original thread the other night reinforced my belief that this community is poplulated by a group of people who really do care about each other regardless of differences that may arise in other situations. Whether it was expressed in a post or in a passing thought, I really do appreciate the kindness of everybody here.
Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all very much.
Thanks
