One Nordstroms, one Lord and Taylor, 3 Macy's, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, 2 White House Black Markets...
...and zero long black dresses in my size!!!
What the heck??? There was a poor selection to begin with, but any that I found, there were very limited sizes and nothing even remotely close to what would fit me. What are people buying all these dresses for???

You couldn't find the dresses that they showed online? What about getting one shipped to you from another store or the web site?sunflower wrote:Shopping sucked tonight.

Re: My first black and white ball!
I doubt people are wearing gowns to funerals...
The woman at Nordstrom was less than helpful...just sorry, no, this is all we have.
I'm reluctant to get something shipped that may or may not fit. I found an awesome Calvin Klein dress at Macy's that they only had in "wine". They didn't have black but if the dress exists in black, it would be perfect (just a little long). But they don't even have the dress online so I don't know how to identify or find it. But if I could find it, I could totally order it because I know it fits.
My problem is a few years ago I lost a lot of weight...and had to get all new clothes. So all my old standard classic stuff went to Goodwill...and something like this comes up and I'm screwed. My only other option is to try malls further from home and hope they have a better selection...

Oh, you said "dresses," not "gowns."sunflower wrote:I doubt people are wearing gowns to funerals...

I expect that there's not much demand for black gowns.

All of those dresses were so beautiful! I wish I had an occasion to wear a gown.

PSM...I figured out the Nordstrom website...if when you are looking at dresses, it says "ship or pick up" right above the item, it's available in store. Otherwise it's only online. It looks like the majority are only online.
Even if it's in store, whether any store remotely near me has my size is another story. At least I now know how to search, maybe I can find something then call to confirm before driving.

At $10 a pop, I'd imagine I haven't spent $200 combined on shoes since the turn of the century.....sunflower wrote:Like me. I do. Very much. Jelly shoes didn't last very long in the 80's (Thank God), and Crocs too shall pass.....

Damn, even I'm not that bad! I have a $20 shoe limit at Mecca. Then again, I only buy a pair of shoes once every couple of years, so maybe our total is about the same. I wish I could go that long, but since I get what I pay for (And my job really tears up shoes fast) I usually have to buy a new pair every 5 or 6 months depending on wear.WheresFanny wrote:Damn, even I'm not that bad! K-Mart used to have a 2 fer one on the kind I buy, which I used to take advantage of since the very first pair I ever bought from Mecca after I was hired fell apart in less than a week. I have since given my shoe loyalty back to my employer....

Re: My first black and white ball!
I can relate. When I worked at Dunkin' Donuts, I went through shoes like you wouldn't believe. (Little known fact, donut glaze eats through canvas, suede and leather.) I used to buy canvas sneakers like Converse and Keds three and four at a time. I could get them at Woolco's for $1 a pop. Then Woolco's went out of business and I had to start going to Kmart, where they were the outrageous price of $2! (This was before Mecca, so I don't feel store disloyalty guilt.)littlebeast13 wrote:I wish I could go that long, but since I get what I pay for (And my job really tears up shoes fast) I usually have to buy a new pair every 5 or 6 months depending on wear.WheresFanny wrote:Damn, even I'm not that bad!
