With all of the political sniping, kool-aid drinking, and PDS all over the Bored, I think that it is important on what is truly important:

Oklahoma and Nebraska once again will strap 'em up and clash on the gridiron this Saturday!

As a very nice touch, there will be a tribute to the "Game of the (20th) Century", as members and coaches from the 1971 squads will have a reunion on Friday and be introduced at the game on Saturday. Jack Milden will be missed. I would love to be around when Barry Switzer and Tom Osborne get to talking!

Well, I won't be at the game. I will watch on television, as it's much easier to find a parking place. As it happens, I was at the 1971 game, which was the greatest football game I've ever witnessed (even if the outcome didn't go the way I preferred.)

I hope Jerry has a good time in Norman, but is just a tiny bit sad on the drive back home.

LOL! I am guessing that Tagge is flying to Norman. (I imagine that neither of us has any thought that Nebraska will leave with a W.)

BTW, I saw part of Stoops' weekly press conference, and I laughed that one of the media raised the issue as to whether there was a clip on Johnny the Jet's punt return. Stoops had a good laugh about it.

I am jealous! I only get to experience the game through re-broadcasts, as I was a mere toddler at that time.


In fact, I have never seen a historical Nebraska game from the stands. When I did go a NU-OU game, it was during the Gibbs/Blake/Schnellenberger period, where they were not much of a game. The pendulum has swung back to OU, and I hope that this year is a continuation of a series of better games (started in the Big XII championship game back in 2006).

Well, now I think appa (HD) and I must be pretty close to the same age. I had always "pictured" him as somewhere between 5 to 10 years younger than I.

Incidently, for those who don't know, the reason that game was so important to OU fans and Nebraska fans is because, pre-BCS, it was for all intents and purposes the title game for that year's National Championship. Both teams were evenly matched, and the lead switched hands throughout the game. The outcome, which could have gone either way, went to Nebraska in the final moments of the game.

My husband was at the game its ownself in 1971. I, on the otherhand, was attending the Univ. of Washington at the time. Our children are continuing the OU tradition and funneling our bucks to continue the dynasty.

This evening should have been more of a blowout, but, it was a win.

In fact, I have never seen a historical Nebraska game from the stands.

I actually got to see the New Years Day 1971 Orange Bowl victory over LSU - we were on a family vacation to Sunny Fla - sat about two rows from the top of the Orange Bowl and durn near froze to death.

At the time I never imagined I'd live in NE in my life.

I saw them twice in Lincoln - against Iowa St and K St in the mid 80's - both were 50 pt games at halftime.
