The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I wondered if Skoop was OK or shaken up by the mere IDEA of a suspicious package in her newsroom.

I'm off work today, but I saw an email from the publisher this afternoon about it. She referred us to a story on our online publication but I can't find it now, so it's either not gotten many hits, and been banished, or they took it down.

I do not worry about such things, as far as my own safety. I don't deny that they exist, but I am not going to invest any energy in worrying about something I have no influence over.

It is too bad that there are people who need to frighten other people or harm them for real, to make themselves feel pleasure. That is not real happiness.
