Nebraska to amend safe-haven law
The Governor of Nebraska and 40 of the Legislature's senators have agreed to amend Nebraska's safe-haven law so that it only applies to infants up to three days old. The Governor doesn't want to call a special session of the Legislature to get it done, so it will probably happen shortly after the first of the year. Unless more embarrassing incidents occur. --Bob

Why amend the law?
Parents abandoning teenaged children may not have been what the legislators envisioned, but it's surely a sign of a family in crisis. If the parents can't bring themselves to ask for any other help that may be available from the Human Services department or any NGO, why shut off this opportunity for an intervention?

To keep Nebraska from becoming a dumping ground. I recall reading a story last week about someone who drove from another state to drop off his/her (I can't remember which) children.MarleysGh0st wrote:Why amend the law?

Is this law being used as a loophole for getting amnesty for a lifetime of child neglect/abuse charges?
