I was sorry to see a contestant lose on a AJ and/or Snaxx question.

Too bad the expert's only expertise in soccer would be Beckham, and primarily the pop-culture side of 'Becks'.

A variation of the "reluctant contestant" hook.

All four of my sons are big into soccer and I've watched many games myself but I have never heard this term. One of my sons, who happened to be watching the show with me, knew it right away. He said that his teammates would shout it out every time they did the maneuver. So it's time to use a lifeline. I don't think ATA or ATE will help, nor will Double Dip, so it's time to PAF.

Another prime example of why "experts" who aren't experienced with WWTBAM aren't effective. This isn't your wheelhouse, Dave, but this is the only opportunity in the whole stack not dominated by the damned clock and this is all you can contribute? You can't even let your mind wander and speculate a little? Even if only to allow Meredith more thinking time on her own?

Sports is far outside my wheelhouse, too, but there was time enough for me to conclude that the only reason a spice would be an appropriate choice for this sports term was if it was a play on words, considering a particular part of the anatomy in close proximity to this shot.

on sploofus I probably would have guessed this was rhyming slang, in the hot seat not so much.

wiki
The origins of the word are a point of debate. According to Alex Leith's book Over the Moon, Brian - The Language of Football, "nuts refers to the testicles of the player through whose legs the ball has been passed and nutmeg is just a development from this". The use of the word nutmeg to mean leg in Cockney rhyming slang has also been put forward as an explanation. The most likely source, however, was postulated by Peter Seddon in his book "Football Talk - The Language And Folklore Of The World's Greatest Game". Nutmegs were a valuable commodity and exporters would regularly place wooden replicas in the ships to England to make up the weight. To be 'nutmegged' implied stupidity on the part of the receiver. It soon caught on in football, implying that the player whose legs the ball had been played through had been tricked, or, nutmegged.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Interesting quote, tmitsss. Is that latter definition of being nutmegged still in common use, anywhere? It sounds so 18th century!

So, can female soccer players be nutmegged?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I don't know, but it is possible the expert did speculate, and they simply edited it out because it wasn't "good television." I know they have very good editors on the show, based on my experience.
