Some years ago, an American woman met a Norwegian man aboard a ship. They fell in love, I suppose, and she agreed to move to Norway to be with him. She found the thank-you note that the young man had sent back, and was shocked when she saw the name: Barack Obama. All she remembered of the guy was that he was a tall, skinny black man with big ears, and was fresh out of law school. Nice guy, huh?

The woman is a former co-worker of my pseudo-MIL. The whole story sounds a bit fantastical, but I'm hoping to see this letter with my own two eyeballs when we visit next week.

If this is a true story, then good for Obama. But he would still make a lousy president that would do great harm to this country, not because the quality of his person but because of the lack of quality of his ideas and policies.

Actually, I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the story. I don't doubt that Senator Obama might have paid the money. It's what I would have done in the same situation.
