5th Grader thread

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:42 am

As Bob Juch has already mentioned, the first contestant on Friday's 5th Grader was Phillip, a Cornell graduate. They said there were 100 other Cornell graduates in the audience, all of whom seemed like rather recent grads. I guess there aren't any older grads in California.

Jeff Foxworthy made a big deal of how poorly the one Harvard and two Yale graduates had done as contestants, so Phillip was playing for Ivy League bragging rights.
Spoiler
And he did get them, walking with $100K. Not that such a performance particularly impressive for any college graduate.

The 5th Graders continued to be unimpressive. There was a 1st Grade Social Studies question:
How many US Federal holidays are there in the month of August?
Phillip peeked at Bryce's answer; luckily he disagreed with that answer, "1".

Later Jeff revealed all the class answers on 3rd Grade US Geography:
Pennsylvania borders which Great Lake?

Not one of them picked the right lake.

To be fair, they had one question for which I'd forgotten the definition, 4th Grade English:
Which sentence contains a transitive verb?
a) The class ended early.
b) The teacher found his notes.
c) The students excelled.
Transitive and intransitive mean what, again? :?

The second contestant was Ralph, who was billed as a "lunch lady leader"--he supervises a school district's cafeterias. He came in wearing a hairnet and he had an extra one for Jeff. A bunch of lunch ladies were in the audience to root him on, all wearing their little disposable plastic gloves.
Spoiler
Ralph made it to $25K, but flunked out when he copied Olivia's answer to a 3rd Grade Art question:
According to the color wheel, what color is complementary to orange?
Olivia's answer was "red". :(
A complete list of the episodes questions is available on the 5th Grader message board:

Considering that Cornell is less than 200 miles from PA and Lake Erie, it's disturbing he hesitated on this one at all.
