I'm in Portland right now and there are blackberries everywhere. So, find me some flour, sugar and butter and we'll have a fruit crumble.

But Sunday's was younger and fruitier with a hint of sermonizing.

Chili Bar

All Beef Chili (NO BEANS!) – for those who think chili isn’t chili if it has beans in it)
- This one is a little spicy so watch the kick at the end

Ground Turkey and Small White Bean Chili – A ‘green’ chili that is a bit more figure friendly for any one watching their weight, you know who you are!

Vegetarian Four Bean Chili – This has a lot of cumin in it and a bit of chipotle in adobo so it is a bit smoky.

Toppings - Sliced scallions, chopped red onion, cilantro sprigs, avocado, sour cream, grated Monterey jack cheese, sliced jalapenos and assorted tortilla chips

PSM made us some dark chocolate chip and pecan cookies. I heard there were brownies too, but SOMEONE ate them all. Sheesh!

There are peanuts and popcorn on the bar. Don’t throw them at the comedian. He has 10 kids and could use the extra money. Unless he is already a millionaire and just hasn’t been able to tell us yet.

I’ll take a frozen margarita with salt barkeep!
I am already in line for that chili bar... yum. And wholly approve of all the items in your toppings list, especially the cilantro!

I'll share the "secret" ingredients I add to my spicy beef or turkey/chicken chili recipe... I also use a little cumin, and add a cup of dark beer, and a hint of... cinnamon, about a 1/4 teaspoon or so. Sounds odd, but really adds an interesting tweak. I'll also throw in a can of chopped tomatoes, some sauteed diced sweet onion and green pepper, and about 4 small, chopped zucchini -- this started out being the hidden veggie factor, but soaks up the flavors nicely and really adds to the mix. I throw in a sprinkle of canned pinto and kidney beans... if someone doesn't like em, they can pick 'em out.

Try serving up chili with this to-die-for Cornbread Casserole :

1 c. Jiffy cornbread mix
1- 17 oz. can of creamed corn
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. melted butter
2 c. shredded jack cheese
1- 4 oz. can diced green chilis
Mix cornbread mix, creamed corn, egg, milk, and butter. Grease a 13" baking dish. Layer half of mixture in pan, spread all the the chilis over the top, add 1/2 of the shredded cheese, add the other 1/2 of the mixture, then top with the other 1/2 of the cheese. Bake 40 mins. at 350 degrees.

The cornbread sounds great, but it certainly won't help those of us trying to lose a few..... :(

Sure is tempting, though.

The beebs has a recipe for "Jeff's Chili" somewhere around here. It's really good and calls for beer, cumin and a couple of cinnamon sticks - among other things.

My family really likes it. I'll think about making soon since it's starting to cool off a bit now. Actually was in the 50's on my morning walk today. :)

You are lucky. It was 98 degrees when I picked Emma up from school this afternoon.
