Leave the gun, take the cannoli...

#1 Post by danielh41 » Tue Sep 23, 2008 11:57 am

I picked up The Godfather set on Blu-ray at lunch today. I have it sitting on my desk here, and I'm wishing my laptop had a Blu-ray drive. I can't wait to get home and see how this looks. I do remember being disappointed in the picture quality of the DVD set that I bought in 2001. But they went back to the original film negatives and went through a thorough restoration for this release.

I haven't seen "The Godfather" in at least 10 years. I really would like to see it again some time.

My father-in-law absolutely loves "The Godfather." So we are having them over for a Godfather watching party this Saturday.

As you may or may not know, "The Godfather Part II" has been my all-time favorite movie since the first time I saw it. The original is #2. I bought the VHS tapes when they first came out, and the DVDs. Like you, I was disappointed in the picture quality, and not overly thrilled with Coppola's "just average" commentary...so yeah, I'll be hitting BestBuy on my way home from work tonight too.

I don't suppose you can tell me if the commentary's new on this version?

The little booklet that comes with the Blu-ray set says that it contains "The original, provocative director's commentary." I would take that to mean that it's the same as on the 2001 DVD release.

Thanks, Daniel! Although that saddens me. I do understand that much of the new bonus materials are new, though...
