Possibe BAM question about chess

#1 Post by themanintheseersuckersuit » Fri Sep 19, 2008 11:42 am

Alexandra Kosteniuk wins the Championships held in Russia.

Boys you just might wanna click through on this one.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

It won't set of any alarms.

But I can see how the other grandmasters couldn't concentrate on their game! :)

The other grandmasters would have been women, right? She won the Women's World Championship.
No matter where you go, there you are.

the world championship is the Women's World Championship.

Grandmaster norm (when he isn't running the local Masonic Lodge) is from the context of the article almost certainly the plain old usual gender-non-specific 99.9 % male grandmaster criterion. I am too lazy to confirm this.
