Greater Derbytown is down to 108,000 people without electricity (down from 139,000 yesterday) and I can count myself among that number. Tonight will be laundry night because we've run out of clean clothing. Fortunately we won't have anything else to do (like grocery shopping). The most frustrating part of this at the moment is what seems like a lack of progress. I have not seen a utility truck or any workers in our area. And we were informed by e-mail (which doesn't do much good if one doesn't have a computer) that our cable service will probably be delayed for several days after the power is restored.
Last night we called a friend who is also without electricity. She doesn't drive, has no job and is physically unable to walk for long distances, so she's been shut in for the week (the nearest bus stop is half a mile away). We took her to dinner and gave her a chance to get out and about. When I consider her situation I don't consider mine to be so bad. I can come to a lighted office and have a car to go places in the evenings.
