Concert tonight!
We are leaving in a half hour to drive up to LA to see The Fratellis. I got floor tickets! I've been looking forward to this all day!
At first Emma and Jeff weren't going to go, because they don't like loud music, but they changed their minds. They both got earplugs and we aren't going to see the two opening acts.

Whenever people (often proudly) mention that they always miss opening acts, I feel I have to point out that the first time I ever saw U2, Jewel, Barenaked Ladies, Prince, Paula Cole, Old 97's, Guster, Richard Thompson and Cheap Trick (and others, I'm sure) play live was when they opened for other acts. In nearly all cases, the headliner at one time was the opening act for someone.

We rush in because of traffic. The girls had homework and we wanted to eat dinner at home.
It was an awesome concert! They played a mix of songs from both Costello Music and Here We Stand. The only song they didn't play that I would have liked to have heard was Creeping up the Backstairs.
I found us some really awesome spots on a raised level just behind the handicapped seating area, just above the pit. We were right next to the rope and there was nobody in front of us. Both Emma and Jeff were able to sit down for a bit and still see the show. We were off to the side, so we had an unobstructed view of the stage.
We also had a lovely view of a lot of blowsy women whispering in the usher's ears and giving them lap dances to try to get into the pit. One women was at it for about five minutes and wouldn't take no for an answer and had to be escorted out by three people. She kept coming back and they didn't let her in. I also saw women, accompanied by their boyfriends try to use this method to get in. They would whisper in the usher's ear, while the boyfriend looked on. Gross.

It was the most descriptive word I could think of. I didn't want to call them sluts, because then I would be making a judgement call about their lifestyle. I agree! But at the Alicia Keys concert her warmup act was Jordin Sparks, so there were tons of 9 yo girls who admired Jordin at the concert, then after she performed the next act an R&B MTV style singer had some slutinsky on the stage with him as part of his act doing a lapdance on him during half of his set. I felt disgusted for the parents who brought their pre teen daughters to this concert. I think the main performer should be responsible for the quality and content of the opening acts and certainly the venue should regulate or apply a ratings system to show content if the acts don't control themselves appropriately. We protect kids from sexual movie content but what about Live shows? Vegas has always had "adults only" stage shows, maybe it's time to do the same for concerts too?
