Answers & Points Timeline, Game 8 Wednesday September 10
Just one note today. I didn't put it in the initial rules because it's kind of accepted, but your answers must all be in one post.
Today's Scoring: (110 points possible with bonus)
Exact year = 10 pts
+/- 2 years = 5 pts
+/- 4 years = 3 pt
Decade (post 1900) = 1 pt
Timeline - September 10
"The Circle of Life"
We're born, we die. And some of us do one or the other on September 10. The question is, when?
Coming:
1. Joe Perry, lead guitarist for Aerosmith.
2. Colin Firth, actor whose charm escapes me. And apparently only me.
3. Arnold Palmer, the guy Jesus thinks he is on the golf course.
4. Guy Ritchie, English director and loving husband of Madonna.
5. Your favourite and mine, the one, the only, Sanjaya! (You need a last name? Okay, Malakar.)
Going:
6. Senator Huey P. Long, the Louisiana Kingfish.
7. Hamida Djandoubi, the last person to be executed by guillotine in France.
8. Jane Wyman, noted actress and ex-wife of Ronald Reagan.
9. Dalton Trumbo, screenwriter on the Hollywood Blacklist and Colorado native.
10. Burgess Meredith, Batman’s Penguin and Rocky’s Mickey.
Bonus: Who was the actor/director who effectively broke the blacklist in 1958 by openly hiring Dalton Trumbo to write a screenplay for what movie? (5 points each for the person and the movie.)
Freebie #1: Nine of these events occurred in the 20th century.
Freebie #2: Only two of the people in the first section will be able to take advantage of the AARP discount when Marley takes them out for their birthday dinner.
Freebie #3: Dalton Trumbo died at the age of 70.

Actor: Kirk Douglas,
Director: Stanley Kubrick (of the movie)
Movie: Sparticus
It was Kirk who was behind the bold move (at the time) when trying to figure out how to handle the screenwriting credit, at one point Kubrick volunteered to take the credit, this really pissed of Kirk who refered to Kubrick as a talented sh*t (according to Kirk's autobiography). It was Kirk who brought in Kubrick on Sparticus after he was unhappy with the initial director (forgot the original director) having worked with him on the classic 'Paths Of Glory'. Otto Preminger at the time was also about to list a blacklisted writer but I believe Kurt Douglas and Sparticus was the first from a variety of ways of looking at it.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

We're born, we die. And some of us do one or the other on September 10. The question is, when?
Coming:
1. Joe Perry, lead guitarist for Aerosmith.
1950
I know! Not only is the crush of my youth hitting the early birds with Marley, but he's only 10 years younger than MY MOM!!!!1
2. Colin Firth, actor whose charm escapes me. And apparently only me.
1960
Holds his age well, almost everybody guessed him much younger.
3. Arnold Palmer, the guy Jesus thinks he is on the golf course.
1929
4. Guy Ritchie, English director and loving husband of Madonna.
1968
Born on the exact same day as Big Daddy Kane, but I figured people would be more familiar with Ritchie. And I was right, almost everybody got a 5-10 pointer on him.
5. Your favourite and mine, the one, the only, Sanjaya! (You need a last name? Okay, Malakar.)
1989
Same with Sanjaya. I guess that speaks to the power of American Idol.
Going:
6. Senator Huey P. Long, the Louisiana Kingfish.
1935
7. Hamida Djandoubi, the last person to be executed by guillotine in France.
1977
Amazing, isn't it?
8. Jane Wyman, noted actress and ex-wife of Ronald Reagan.
2007
9. Dalton Trumbo, screenwriter on the Hollywood Blacklist and Colorado native.
1976
10. Burgess Meredith, Batman’s Penguin and Rocky’s Mickey.
1997
Doesn't seem nearly that long ago.
Bonus: Who was the actor/director who effectively broke the blacklist in 1958 by openly hiring Dalton Trumbo to write a screenplay for what movie? (5 points each for the person and the movie.)
Kirk Douglas, Spartacus
Otto Preminger hired him for Exodus a year later, but both pictures came out about the same time.
