Rivendell is still without power (for the third day) and there are no prospects of having it restored any time soon. Yesterday evening we went through the refrigerator getting rid of the things that were on the verge of going bad (surprisingly the temperature inside was still pretty low). The good news is that we have hot water, so we can shower. The washer and dryer are electric, however; fortunately elwing and I had done laundry on Saturday so we should be good for a while. No news on the automobile front, either.

And at work the report moratorium we've been under for the past three weeks continues, as "the software still has some issues which must be resolved."

I sound much better than I am. With respect to the power outage there's not much that can be done, with 200,000 people out of power. Besides, I'm getting a lot more rest now, since I "go to bed with the sun". As to the government reports, I've worked for the government long enough to know how these things go. The outrage will come when we get the inevitable message that the reports must be completed by September 30 (the end of our fiscal year) even though we've been unable to submit any since the middle of August.

The morning paper says that it could be as long as a week. The priority system published today indicates that the utility company will be trying to restore the areas with the largest number of homes first, but there's no way to know whether our area is a large or small one. Plus they are now saying that the outages are not just due to downed lines but to over 500 utility poles that were broken off by the winds (which topped out at over 75 MPH).

Wow. The irony is that our Texan BBs have power and the outsiders are in the dark!

They moved a bunch of our lines underground after Isabel, but when the remnants of Hannah blew through last weekend, our power went out 5 times. Three were just blinks, but the other two totalled 3 hours. And this was a tropical storm when it hit hundreds of miles away.

Stupid trees...

My brother has power in Middletown, so he moved our 91 year old mom to his house until hers is restored. It's a real mess, that's for sure.
