Well I'm not proud - who were you and when did your show air?

OK I have voted, now I will explain.

Game was like baseball, no official time limit, not over till its over, contestant has to make a decision what his/her best tactic is at each level. The audience or the PAF can mess up due to time, but the conestant had to consciously reach the decision.

Well, now that you asked me, I feel somewhat obligated to tell you who I am, not that I am a big million dollar winner, or even a 250,000 dollar winner. But by Grace, I got a whole lot higher than I thought I could reasonably expect to get. I'm that pastor that appeared on the November 28th, 2007 show.

The clock has not made the game faster or better in any way, and they should get rid of it. Sometimes it is good to hear their reasoning for their answer, and that has been eliminated. And eventually we are going to see someone have to leave with only $100 or $200 because they let the time run out on their next question.

Just to clarify the new rules, is the clock supposed to stop as soon as the contestant says she wants to use a lifeline, or does it stop only after a specific lifeline is named? My impression is that it is the latter, but I wonder how crisp and clear one's intentions must be before the clock stops.

If a contestant is thinking out loud (which used to be part of the game), and says something like, "I think I know this one (pause) but maybe I should ask the audience just to be sure (pause) but this is a perfect time to use the Double Dip (pause) you know what -- Bill Nye should know this one...." -- what would happen? Would someone in the booth stop the clock as soon as there is a vague indication of wanting to use a lifeline, or would Meredith ask for verification while the clock continues to run ("Is Phone A Friend your final lifeline choice?")

Have this year's contestants been briefed on these finer points?

The clock only stops once you specify the lifeline you are using. So in the scenario - "I need to use a lifeline, I'm not sure which one.... OK I am going to" The clock is running the entire time until you say something like "Phone a Friend or Ask The Audience". So if you goal is to maximize the time you have to think about hte question and answers - "off the clock" just saying you want to use a lifeline and then picking the lifeline after while you have time to study the question will not work.

So if you say I'm thinking about using a lifeline, or I'm not sure maybe I should use a lifeline - the clock will still run.

Saying the same thing with the specific lifeline mentioned, e.g. I'm not sure maybe I should ask the audience - I think would be a judgement call. Maybe Meredith will ask you if that is what you want to do, if it sounds very tentitive I would guess that they wouldn't stop the clock, but if you said "I think I'm going to ask the audience" I would imagine that the clock would stop. My best guess is that they make the call as to when you have declared that you are using a specific lifeline and that once they feel you have and stopped the clock, you have no choice but to use it, that is you can't back out and resume the clock without going with the lifeline.

I have noticed from the shows that have already aired that if you use the PAF and you say "I'm going to use a lifeline, I want to call Jay" then your off-clock time is greatly reduced because they almost immedietly remove your other PAFs and go directly to the one you named. IMO, it would be better just to say Phone-A-Friend, which stops the clock quicker but then you have extra time as they display, talk about and then ask you to decide which PAF you want - so you can use that extra time to make some choices on how you want to phrase you question as well as think about which is likely and which is not likely, what you want to do if you PAF is not 100%, what are the upcoming categories and how you want to plan any future lifelines, etc. I think that a contestant would want to maximize their time when the clock is stopped but can still see the question and choices, so that saying who your PAF is when saying you are using the lifeline may not be the best thing to do.

I will agree that the clock has added some "tension" to the show but overall I think it has "slowed" the game way too much. Not enough questions per day. No way will we see the same # of contestants per year as we have. I don't remember how many each year, but it will be a lot less.

Nothing against ATEs, but it is too herky jerky.
