Post-Wedding Blog: General update on us

GW and I are still getting our post-children lives together. We haven't managed anything like a routine yet. GW is a bit depressed, combination of empty nest syndrome and the loss of Midnight. Unlike BD and SIL, we don't have the time to devote to a new dog. It's unfair to the dog to leave him or her alone for ten hours a day, especially when you're all new to each other. Not to mention the effect on the cats and vice versa.

We are slowly retrieving stuff that had been stashed in the basement and dealing with it better. Sorting, filing, tossing, whatever. The house is also returning to its regular combination of cleanliness and clutter.

BD's room is being prepared for some trim painting, to be followed by decisions on flooring (also for the outside hallway/computer area/stairway) and wall paint. There's also a bed to be purchased for the room, to make sure that the HC returns as often as possible.

Our street is finally being torn up for installation of the sewer line, an action once threatened for the weeks before and after the wedding. Final connections to the house won't happen until next spring, due to necessary settling time and tests before the line in the street is approved for it. We had a quote on it, considerably less expensive than we had anticipated. Good. Gives us time to replenish the coffers.

The cats miss BD, or at least her bed. Even the stray-like one is behaving more friendly toward us. And they're crowding us in the bed on the cooler nights. We may have some major battles for bed space once autumn truly sets in.

I need to start selling off the comics again. All the wedding payments have been made, but it wouldn't hurt to clear out more basement space.
