RIP Gregory McDonald

Author of the Fletch novels about the irreverent investigative reporter that were popular in the 1970's and 80's. The movie version of Fletch starred Chevy Chase (and was, along with Vacation, his best movie role). MacDonald himself was a journalist with the Boston Globe before moving to Tennessee, where he spent the last twenty years of his life. His books won two Edgar awards for Best Mystery novels.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I picked up a copy of Fletch to read on the bus to Buffalo - before the movie came out, and I was hooked. The book is much better then the movie, and I highly recommend it. I've read over of dozen of his novels since then and though I consider Fletch his best, they are all well written and very funny.

I would advise everyone to get a copy of Fletch and read it.
